Manual Jewellery Designer creates original jewellery concepts, technical drawings, and detailed sketches by hand, often preparing designs for manufacturing, stone setting, and production. Key duties include sketching jewelry pieces (rings, necklaces, earrings), material selection (metals, gemstones), and, in some cases, hand-crafting prototypes.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Sketching: Create, conceptualize, and render detailed hand-drawn designs for new collections or custom, high-end pieces.Technical Planning: Prepare detailed, accurate design sheets, including technical specifications for production, manufacturing feasibility, and, sometimes, initial CorelDRAW or CAD conversion.Trend & Client Research: Stay updated on market trends and collaborate with clients or sales teams to understand requirements.Production Support: Collaborate with jewelers to ensure the final product aligns with the original design vision, providing adjustments as needed.Material Selection: Choose appropriate metals, precious stones, and settings to ensure durability, comfort, and style. Required Skills and QualificationsStrong artistic skills, including manual sketching, illustration, and 3D visualization.Deep knowledge of jewellery-making techniques, including soldering, stone setting, and metalwork.Proficiency in design software, often including CorelDRAW or Canva, alongside traditional, manual sketching techniques.Understanding of gemstone, metal, and jewelry manufacturing, including knowledge of materials and, in some cases, pricing.Attention to detail regarding proportion, design aesthetics, and production feasibility. Work EnvironmentManual jewelry designers can work in-house for jewellery manufacturing companies, design houses, or work as freelancers.The role requires close collaboration with, or sometimes, direct, hands-on production of, items.
