Required Qualifications:
Technical Skills-
- 7+ years of backend development experience
- Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
- Handson experience with Kafka and eventdriven architectures
- Experience building cloudnative systems (Azure preferred)
- Strong experience with Azure SQL and relational data modeling
- Experience integrating legacy systems with modern cloud platforms
System & Delivery Experience-
- Experience supporting highvolume, realtime transactional systems
- Strong debugging, rootcause analysis, and production support skills
- Experience supporting UAT, pilots, and production rollouts
- Comfortable working across development, testing, and operational phases
Nice to Have:
- Retail, pricing, or merchandising domain experience
- Familiarity with SMART, Price Engine,
- Experience with Digital Shelf Labels (DSL)
- Exposure to international pricing, tax rules, or multimarket systems
- Performance and resiliency testing experience
Job Description:
The Senior Backend Engineer will play a critical role in an International Price Engine transformation, a multiphase initiative replacing legacy SMART pricing with a near realtime, cloudnative pricing platform.
This role is handson and crossfunctional, spanning backend development, eventdriven integration, audit parity, pilot support, and production rollouts. Engineers in this role must be comfortable working across Java services, Kafka pipelines, Azure cloud infrastructure, pricing rules, and storelevel validation, supporting the full lifecycle from development through Hypercare.
Key Responsibilities
1. Backend Development & System Integration
- Design, develop, and maintain Java / Spring Boot microservices supporting Price Engine workflows.
- Build and enhance SMART interoperability services, including:
- SMART Backfeed components
- SOAP API integrations for downstream POS routing
- Support coexistence between legacy SMART and Price Engine during transition periods.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, faulttolerant, and aligned with global SPA (Single Platform Acceleration) standards.
