Internship Overview
This internship opportunity is offered under the Digital Accessibility Compliance function at ETS.
The rapid adoption of AI-based educational tools — including AI chatbots and avatar-driven simulation tasks — has outpaced the development of clearly testable accessibility standards. Additionally, emerging regulations such as the EU Accessibility Act and EU AI Act introduce compliance requirements that require structured interpretation.
The selected intern will work closely with ETS accessibility experts to develop a practical framework for evaluating accessibility compliance in AI-driven interaction systems.
Role Objective
To design and apply a structured methodology for assessing accessibility compliance in AI-based chat and simulation platforms, and to identify compliance gaps, risks, and actionable improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a methodology for evaluating accessibility in AI chat and avatar-based systems.
- Map applicable accessibility standards and regulatory requirements.
- Apply the methodology to real or simulated AI interactions.
- Identify accessibility gaps and compliance risks.
- Prepare structured documentation of findings.
- Present final recommendations at the end of the internship.
Expected Deliverables
- Documented accessibility evaluation framework for AI chat/avatars.
- Accessibility assessments using the developed methodology.
- Compliance gap and risk analysis.
- Final presentation summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Knowledge transfer documentation.
Eligibility Criteria
- B.Tech (Computer Science / IT / AI / Related Streams) - Pre-final or Final Year.
- Strong coding fundamentals (Java, HTML, Web technologies preferred).
- Basic exposure to AI systems, chatbot technologies, or simulations.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated empathy and interest in inclusive design and accessibility.
- Ability to understand complex problem statements and break them into structured solutions.
Preferred Competencies
- Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG knowledge is an advantage).
- Interest in AI governance, compliance, or regulatory interpretation.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Self-driven, detail-oriented, and collaborative mindset.
