Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role located in Chandigarh for an Intellectual Property Specialist. The role involves managing and preparing patents, ensuring compliance with relevant patent laws, and overseeing intellectual property-related matters. The Intellectual Property Specialist will analyze legal documents, provide strategic advice on IP-related issues, and collaborate with team members to protect the company's intellectual assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft high-quality patent applications (provisional and complete specifications) in the electronics domain (e.g., semiconductors, embedded systems, communication technologies, IoT).
- Conduct prior art searches, patentability assessments, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis.
- Manage end-to-end patent filing process across jurisdictions (India, US, EP, etc.).
- Handle patent prosecution, including responding to office actions and examiner queries.
- Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and product teams to identify invention disclosures and build patent portfolios.
- Provide strategic inputs on IP portfolio management, including filing strategies and competitive benchmarking.
- Prepare complete patent specifications: independent claims, dependent claims, working examples, drawings, and abstract — covering hardware, firmware, method, and system claims
- Monitor competitor patents and perform technology landscape analysis.
- Support IP due diligence, licensing, and infringement analysis.
- Ensure compliance with IP laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics / Electrical Engineering / Communication Engineering or related field.
- Certification in Intellectual Property (preferred but not mandatory).
- Registered Patent Agent (India or other jurisdictions) is a strong plus.
Experience & Skills
- 6–8 years of hands-on IP management and patent prosecution — specifically in electronics, embedded systems, power electronics, or electrical engineering; trademark, copyright, or pharmaceutical-only backgrounds do not qualify
- Electronics domain knowledge — must be able to read a circuit schematic, understand sensor signal chains, and extract patentable claim elements from a hardware engineer's explanation without engineering hand-holding
- Strong understanding of patent laws and procedures (India and international).
- Expertise in prior art search tools (e.g., Google Patents, Espacenet, USPTO, WIPO).
- Experience in handling office actions and patent prosecution lifecycle.
- Excellent technical writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to understand complex engineering concepts and translate them into patentable language.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to AI/ML in electronics, semiconductor design, or communication protocols.
- Experience working with global IP firms or corporate R&D teams.
- Familiarity with IP management tools/software.
