Job Description

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role located in Chandigarh for an Intellectual Property Specialist. The role involves managing and preparing patents, ensuring compliance with relevant patent laws, and overseeing intellectual property-related matters. The Intellectual Property Specialist will analyze legal documents, provide strategic advice on IP-related issues, and collaborate with team members to protect the company's intellectual assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft high-quality patent applications (provisional and complete specifications) in the electronics domain (e.g., semiconductors, embedded systems, communication technologies, IoT).
  • Conduct prior art searches, patentability assessments, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis.
  • Manage end-to-end patent filing process across jurisdictions (India, US, EP, etc.).
  • Handle patent prosecution, including responding to office actions and examiner queries.
  • Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and product teams to identify invention disclosures and build patent portfolios.
  • Provide strategic inputs on IP portfolio management, including filing strategies and competitive benchmarking.
  • Prepare complete patent specifications: independent claims, dependent claims, working examples, drawings, and abstract — covering hardware, firmware, method, and system claims
  • Monitor competitor patents and perform technology landscape analysis.
  • Support IP due diligence, licensing, and infringement analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with IP laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics / Electrical Engineering / Communication Engineering or related field.
  • Certification in Intellectual Property (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Registered Patent Agent (India or other jurisdictions) is a strong plus.

Experience & Skills

  • 6–8 years of hands-on IP management and patent prosecution — specifically in electronics, embedded systems, power electronics, or electrical engineering; trademark, copyright, or pharmaceutical-only backgrounds do not qualify
  • Electronics domain knowledge — must be able to read a circuit schematic, understand sensor signal chains, and extract patentable claim elements from a hardware engineer's explanation without engineering hand-holding
  • Strong understanding of patent laws and procedures (India and international).
  • Expertise in prior art search tools (e.g., Google Patents, Espacenet, USPTO, WIPO).
  • Experience in handling office actions and patent prosecution lifecycle.
  • Excellent technical writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to understand complex engineering concepts and translate them into patentable language.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to AI/ML in electronics, semiconductor design, or communication protocols.
  • Experience working with global IP firms or corporate R&D teams.
  • Familiarity with IP management tools/software.

Key Competencies

  • Analytical thinking
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strategic mindset
  • Collaboration and stakeholder management
