Job Description
- Designing/Implementing container orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes) in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Ensuring that container orchestration platform (Kubernetes) is regularly maintained and released to production without downtime.
- Designing, creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation of best practices for all implemented system configurations.
- Consulting experience dealing with a customer's security, networking, infrastructure and other teams for software deployed in their cloud/data center or integrated with it.
- Managing a team of infrastructure engineers to ensure they are constantly up to date with the technology being used and processes/policies.
- Proactively and independently managing infrastructure to ensure all software is using a supported version
- Supporting audits on infrastructure from a security and monitoring perspective, for example SOC2 or ISO 27001.
- Designing and implementing infrastructure in at least 2 different cloud vendors, with the ability to understand cost-saving measures in each.
Overall Purpose
This position assumes overall responsibility for the successful execution of all SaaS environments. This includes managing other infrastructure engineers and ensuring they have the knowledge to perform all aspects of their job responsibilities. This role reports directly to the VP of Operations and interacts regularly with the CTO, head of product and others to work collaboratively to optimize efficiency, maximize the security posture relative to our risk appetite, and minimize costs. As this role interfaces primarily with team members and clients in the United States, it will require overlapping the Pacific time zone by at least the first 4 hours of the business day.
You will also oversee customer-specific installations. Custom ingress/egress solutions are common, and the ideal candidate should be able to help design customized installations that account for specific security, high-availability and log centralization needs while following core reference architectures established. Experience working with a multitude of cloud environments, data centers, security architectures and enterprise processes is critical to be successful. Excellent communication skills are required as this role will regularly interface with clients and their infrastructure teams.
Essential Functions
- Regularly monitoring and reviewing software versions, deployed compute resources and other cloud components to ensure our platform is stable, supported and running efficiently with the least amount of expense.
- Oversee all aspects of infrastructure installation including configuration of new and existing systems on multiple platforms, security, operating system administration, software installation, and maintenance and upgrades.
- Design, create and maintain comprehensive documentation of best practices for all implemented system configurations.
- Design/Implement container orchestration platform (Kubernetes) in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Ensure that container orchestration platform (Kubernetes) is regularly maintained and released to production without downtime.
- Participate in Technology/Architecture Review Boards explaining how our platform is installed securely and made highly available.
- Diagnose and resolve server and application problems and act as escalation point to troubleshoot server issues and suggest possible performance tuning.
- Provide software evaluation support.
- Work closely with other technical team members and departments to recommend solutions and resolve priority issues in timely manner.
- Seek out and implement new technologies to continually simplify the environment while improving security and performance.
- Reduce overall administrative costs by leveraging open-source solutions and other innovative ideas.
- Interact with multiple internal customers and external vendors and partners to provide quality customer service.
- Support the company's commitment to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
Must Have Qualifications
- At least 8 years experience working with at least 2 of AWS, Azure or Google cloud
- At least 2 years working in a VMWare environment (ability to create new OVA/OVF images
- Experience overseeing a team of infrastructure engineers
- Capable to automate tasks with a scripting language such as python or even shell scripting
- Minimum 7 years work experience in a medium to large scale enterprise. Extensive knowledge with the following disciplines:
- Good experience in deploying container technologies like Docker.
- Hands-on experience with deploying Kubernetes in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Experience in building and supporting Infrastructure as Code
- Networking components and concepts (multiple subnets, availability zones, NAT, load balancers, etc.)
- Linux Systems Administration (medium-large scale systems)
- Automation Building, testing, & deploying on Linux operating system using industry standard tools. (Bamboo, Cucumber, Jenkins, etc).
- Familiar with source control management and how they are used in delivery (Git/BitBucket, GitOps)
- Experienced with security and encryption protocols.
- Familiarity with Web Application Firewall rules and capabilities
- Comfort with facilitating collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional teams
- Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
