Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and technically driven Lead Software Engineer to provide architectural guidance, lead development efforts, and drive modernization strategies for applications built on the IBM Informix platform. This role suits a hands-on technical leader skilled in system stewardship, mentoring, and strategic execution across legacy and modern ecosystems.

Primary Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead technical design and architectural decisions for new features and enhancements across Informix 4GL platforms
  • Operate in AIX/UNIX environments for deployment, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Define and promote coding standards, patterns, and engineering best practices
  • Collaborate on modernization roadmaps with architects and engineering managers
  • Guide code reviews, refactoring, and system integration efforts

Application Development & Support

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enhancements using Informix 4GL
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and conduct root cause analysis
  • Ensure accuracy, performance, and stability of software releases
  • Act as the technical escalation point for production incidents

Collaboration & Problem Solving

  • Work with cross-functional teams including QA, DevOps, and product owners
  • Engage in agile ceremonies and backlog grooming for planning and execution
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor junior/mid-level engineers and support career development
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable engineering culture
  • Champion internal learning, onboarding, and knowledge sharing

Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend improvements to systems, performance, and development processes
  • Support documentation and automation efforts
  • Stay current with relevant technology trends to inform modernization

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with strong exposure to IBM Informix and Informix 4GL
  • Proven leadership in development projects or teams
  • Expertise in software architecture, data modeling, and performance optimization
  • Hands-on with tools like Git, Azure DevOps, PVCS, and JIRA
  • Strong analytical skills for legacy system evaluation and improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with object-oriented design, refactoring legacy code
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, asynchronous programming, RabbitMQ or Azure Service Bus
  • Exposure to .NET development and integration
  • Knowledge of Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud platforms
  • Ability to lead across mixed tech stacks and communicate with technical/business teams
