People with good verbal as well as written communication skills have a high rate to sustain well in this career. The whole field of hospitality is all about communicating with the guests, serving/hosting and taking good care of them which involves a lot of verbal as well as written communication.

Personal Grooming: Another most important skill is personal grooming. Looking presentable is the next most important aspect in Hotel as well as Hospitality management. Generally, the staff of any Hotel is the one that represents the whole brand (Hotel chain) and hence their personal behavioural as well as presentation skills matters a lot.

Patience: The whole Hospitality industry is a place where you are the host and are supposed to serve the guests. This involves a lot of patience while working. You are expected to listen to the guests requests and demands quietly and serve them with the most relevant options.

Leadership Quality: Hoteling industry works on a position basis criteria. Although you might start with a basic position where you will be working under someone but with time and experience you will also lead a team. Managing a team requires a lot of mutual understanding and decision making skills.

Training in Hotels as apprentice

After the amendment of the National Apprentice Promotion Scheme (NAPS), various sectors in the Hotel and Tourism industry are now open to take almost 10% of the bracket of apprenticeship.

Some hotels take candidates as apprentices after 12th and some experience in the hotel industry or after graduation.

The amendment of NAPS has made things easier for a large population who wish to be a part of this diverse industry.

Many hotels open their platform from the ecosystem and provide them with required skills and training. This helps the hotel as well as the candidate in both ways as they are hired and given on-the-job training and the hotel gets trained staff.

A large number of hotels offer job training programs so that all the trainees receive a holistic experience in different aspects of hospitality including food and beverage, housekeeping, laundry, food production, and engineering. They are also offered remuneration as part of their apprenticeship to help them stay goal oriented and focused.
