The HSE Manager will oversee the implementation of environmental, social, and health & safety (E&S/HSE) practices across all Solen renewable energy projects. This role will serve as the lead interface with international lenders and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with IFC Performance Standards, local E&S regulations, and project specific ESG commitments.
The ESG Manager will be responsible for ESIA/RAP oversight, stakeholder engagement, ESG risk management, ESG due diligence coordination, and the development of a robust Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS). The role will also support the recruitment, capacity building, and mentoring of in-country ESG teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of Solen's Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) across projects.
- Oversee Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and ensure alignment with IFC PSs, World Bank EHS Guidelines, and local regulatory frameworks.
- Supervise Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs), Livelihood Restoration Plans (LRPs), and ensure consistency with IFC PS5.
- Serve as primary ESG focal point for international lenders, ensuring timely submission of E&S reports, ESAP progress, and audit responses.
- Monitor implementation of HSE programs, including occupational safety, emergency preparedness, and contractor management, in line with ISO 45001 / ISO 14001.
- Coordinate social and community engagement strategies, including grievance management, gender mainstreaming, and human rights risk assessment.
- Review and update internal ESG policies, SOPs, and training frameworks. - Identify and manage ESG risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle
- Build and support ESG/HSE teams in-country; mentor junior officers and ensure capacity development.
Key Requirements:
- Master's degree in environmental science, Social Studies, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with strong exposure to ESIA, RAP, and IFC Performance Standards implementation.
- Proven track record working on renewable energy or infrastructure projects preferably in Africa.
- Sound knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and World Bank EHS Guidelines.
- Strong project management, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Fluency in English; French proficiency is highly desirable.
