Role Overview
We are seeking a highly accomplished Head of Product Engineering to lead end-to-end Product Engineering and Application Development & Maintenance (ADM/AMS) for cloud-native platforms. This role combines hands-on technical depth with delivery leadership, owning architecture, engineering excellence, DevOps maturity, and operational reliability.
The ideal candidate will be a strong technologist with proven experience delivering microservices-based, API-driven, event-oriented platforms using DevOps and CI/CD-first delivery models, while scaling teams and ensuring predictable, high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Product Engineering & Architecture Leadership
- Own and define the technical vision and reference architecture for cloud-based, microservices-driven products.
- Lead architecture decisions across microservices, API gateways, event-driven systems, and data platforms.
- Champion Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles including bounded contexts and service ownership.
- Ensure scalable, resilient, and secure product architectures aligned with business roadmap.
Application Development & Maintenance (ADM/AMS)
- Lead full lifecycle application delivery including development, enhancements, production support, and modernization.
- Own delivery across Agile/Scrum, DevOps, and CI/CD-based operating models.
- Drive operational excellence with strong SLAs, SLOs, and reliability metrics.
- Ensure effective collaboration between product engineering, SRE, and operations teams.
Cloud, DevOps & CI/CD
- Lead engineering teams building and operating platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Define and govern DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated testing, and releases.
- Promote containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Drive automation for build, test, deployment, and monitoring.
Event-Driven & API Platforms
- Architect and govern event-driven systems using Kafka, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, or equivalent.
- Define API standards for REST, GraphQL, gRPC, versioning, and security.
- Ensure seamless integration with internal and external platforms through scalable API ecosystems.
People, Delivery & Stakeholder Management
- Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams and technical leaders.
- Partner with Product Management to translate product vision into executable engineering roadmaps.
- Engage with senior stakeholders to report delivery progress, risks, and technical strategy.
- Drive engineering governance, design reviews, and technical debt management.
Quality, Security & Reliability
- Embed quality engineering, security-by-design, and reliability practices across the SDLC.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, data privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead incident reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
- 1520 years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience leading large-scale product engineering teams.
- Proven hands-on expertise in cloud-native application architecture and microservices-based systems.
- Strong experience with API-led architectures, integration platforms, and distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation practices.
- Hands-on knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging systems.
- Strong experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) concepts in complex domains.
- Proficiency with modern tech stacks (Java/Spring Boot, .NET Core, Node.js, Python, etc.).
- Experience with container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift) and IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing large-scale ADM/AMS engagements.
- Exposure to SRE practices and observability platforms.
- Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP Architect).
- Experience working in regulated industries (Healthcare, BFSI, Telecom).
