Job Description

Job Summary

The Head – Powertrain Planning will lead production engineering activities for engine, axle, and transmission manufacturing operations. The role focuses on developing efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality manufacturing processes while driving new product industrialization, automation, and manufacturing excellence initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead production engineering strategy for powertrain manufacturing.
  • Build and develop strong machining and assembly engineering teams.
  • Drive digital manufacturing, automation, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment with plant productivity, quality, and cost targets.

New Product Introduction

  • Conduct manufacturing feasibility studies during product development.
  • Support APQP activities for new product launches.
  • Lead pilot builds, launch readiness, and production ramp-up.
  • Implement DFM/DFA and manufacturing readiness planning.

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Develop and optimize machining and assembly processes for powertrain components.
  • Define process flow, PFMEA, control plans, and standard operating procedures.
  • Improve cycle time, productivity, and process capability (Cp/Cpk).
  • Lead machining strategy for components such as cylinder block, crankshaft, gears, axles, and housings.

Capex & Project Management

  • Plan and implement new machines, automation systems, and assembly lines.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, vendor coordination, and commissioning.

Manufacturing Excellence

  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Reduce manufacturing cost, scrap, and tool consumption.
  • Improve line balancing, layout planning, and material flow.

Automation & Digital Manufacturing

  • Deploy robotics, automated material handling, and smart manufacturing systems.
  • Drive digital monitoring and data-driven manufacturing processes.

Education & Experience

  • B.E / B.Tech or M.E / M.Tech in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering
  • 20+ years experience in automotive powertrain manufacturing
  • Strong exposure to machining, assembly, and new product launches.
