Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill
patients.
- Monitor adherence to ICU clinical protocols, infection control practices, and
patient safety standards.
- Participate in daily ICU rounds and collaborate with Intensivists and
multidisciplinary teams.
- Oversee implementation of care bundles (VAP, CLABSI, CAUTI, sepsis,
pressure injury prevention).
- Nursing Staff Management
- Plan and manage ICU nursing manpower, duty rosters, and shift coverage.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate performance of ICU nursing staff.
- Identify training needs and conduct regular skill upgradation programs (BLS,
ACLS, ventilator care, CRRT, etc.).
- Ensure optimal nurse-to-patient ratios as per acuity and regulatory norms.
- Quality & Patient Safety
- Lead quality improvement initiatives within the ICU.
- Monitor key ICU indicators: infection rates, medication errors, pressure ulcers,
falls, and incident reports.
- Ensure timely reporting, investigation, and closure of adverse events and near
misses.
- Support audits, NABH/JCI compliance, and internal quality assessments.

- Ensure availability and proper utilization of ICU equipment, consumables, and
crash carts.
- Coordinate with biomedical, pharmacy, and materials departments for
uninterrupted ICU operations.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation, checklists, and registers.
- Participate in budgeting and cost-optimization initiatives for ICU nursing
services.
- Policy, SOP & Compliance
- Develop, review, and implement ICU nursing SOPs and policies.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, legal, ethical, and accreditation
requirements.
- Ensure proper induction and credentialing of new ICU nursing staff.
- Communication & Coordination
- Act as the primary nursing liaison between ICU consultants, administration,
and other departments.
- Address patient family concerns in coordination with the ICU medical team.
- Participate in hospital committees related to infection control, quality, and
patient safety.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- B.Sc Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing (Mandatory)
- M.Sc Nursing (Critical Care / Medical-Surgical Nursing) Preferred
Experience
- Minimum 812 years of nursing experience, with 5+ years in ICU/critical
care
- At least 23 years in a leadership or supervisory role in ICU
