We are looking for an exceptional Head of Humanities to establish and lead a multidisciplinary department that spans History, Geography, and the Social Sciences, setting the academic and cultural tone for the study of the human story at one of India's most prestigious new schools. This is a founding leadership role a genuine opportunity to build something outstanding from the ground up, and to leave a lasting imprint on the intellectual life of the school.

About the school:

Opened in August 2025, Shrewsbury International School India is the newest and largest boarding school for students aged 11 to 18 in India. Set on a breathtaking 150-acre campus in Madhya Pradesh — at the very heart of the subcontinent the school is a flagship institution within the JSW Schools group and a proud extension of the globally respected Shrewsbury brand.

The school delivers a rigorous British curriculum: CIE Lower Secondary, progressing through IGCSEs to A Level, embedded within the holistic, whole-person philosophy for which Shrewsbury has been celebrated for over 450 years. The role:

As Head of Humanities, you will be both a leader and a practitioner someone who teaches with passion and leads with vision. You will have the rare privilege of establishing an outstanding multidisciplinary Humanities department and shaping the educational experience of every student who passes through it.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Humanities Department across all year groups
  • Teach one or more Humanities subjects up to A Level, modelling the highest standards of classroom practice
  • Recruit, develop and inspire a team of Humanities teachers, fostering a culture of collaboration, academic rigour and continuous improvement
  • Design and oversee a coherent, challenging and enriching multidisciplinary curriculum from Key Stage 3 through to A Level
  • Drive outstanding student outcomes across History, Geography, and related disciplines
  • Contribute to the wider academic and pastoral leadership of the school
  • Champion the Humanities as a discipline that develops empathy, critical thinking and global awareness in every student

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with an interest in contributing to the life of a boarding house. Those wishing to be considered for boarding responsibilities should indicate this clearly in their application letter.

Who we are looking for:
  • An experienced and qualified teacher with a strong academic background in one or more Humanities disciplines
  • A proven track record of departmental leadership, curriculum development and team management in a high-performing school
  • The ability to teach confidently up to A Level within a British or international curriculum framework
  • Familiarity with the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) framework, or a demonstrable ability to lead within it
  • An inspirational leader who brings out the best in both students and colleagues
  • A broad intellectual curiosity someone who reads widely, thinks deeply and communicates ideas with clarity and conviction
  • A professional who sees leadership as an act of service: to their department, their students and the wider school community
