We are looking for a Head of Engineering who owns engineering execution, technical architecture, platform reliability and system scalability and can balance long-term technical direction with near-term delivery. You will lead the engineering org comprising Back-end, Front-end, DevOps & QA teams. You will partner closely with the Head of Product to evaluate roadmap feasibility, trade-offs, and priorities to translate product strategy into scalable, reliable engineering delivery while supporting other functional teams (Marketing, Business, CX) with scalable tech foundations.
This role demands strong technical judgment, operational rigor, and the ability to manage high-performing engineering teams. This is a hands-on leadership role, with direct involvement in high-impact technical decisions, architectural reviews, and solving complex systemic problems when required.
What you will do:
- Architecture & Technical Direction
- Take ownership of system architecture and technical standards across the platform
- Drive scalable, secure, and maintainable system design aligned with long-term business needs
- Own build vs buy solutioning and evaluation decisions for platform and tooling and ensure strong engineering standards around integrations
- Engineering Org Design & Leadership
- Lead Frontend, Backend, QA, DevOps & Fullstack teams, currently comprising 20 engineers
- Coach leads on delivery, planning, and people management ensuring strong technical ownership at all levels while building a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Own team structure, culture, hiring, mentoring, performance management and productivity
- Continuously evolve SDLC workflows, including the use of AI-enabled tools, to improve developer productivity and code quality
- Set a high bar for engineering craftsmanship, ownership, and decision-making while fostering psychological safety and accountability
- Engineering Execution & Delivery
- Own end-to-end delivery of engineering roadmaps with a focus on quality, predictability & speed
- Establish effective planning, estimation, and execution processes that support squad-based delivery, with lightweight, effective agile practices
- Review and finalize written engineering design documents prior to project executions
- Optimally balance allocation bandwidth to new projects, technical debt and ad-hoc business asks
- Monitor delivery health across teams (predictability, quality, morale) by identifying systemic bottlenecks and fixing them
- Platform Reliability & Security
- Own platform uptime, performance, technical costs, security & proactive incident management
- Define and maintain effective on-call, monitoring, and incident response practices
- Lead post-incident reviews and ensure learnings are incorporated into system improvements
- Put in place an incident management plan with proper escalation matrix and actions and establish a culture of root cause analysis of incidents
- Proactive security audit and implementation of preventive measures
What we expect of you in 2 months:
- Conduct a comprehensive gap analysis across architecture and system design engineering org structure and roles delivery processes and execution health reliability, security, and operational readiness and tooling, SDLC workflows, and developer productivity
- Assess current technical debt, scalability risks, and reliability bottlenecks
- Identify key near-term risks and long-term improvement opportunities
- Present a clear, prioritized action plan outlining immediate fixes, medium-term improvements and long-term architectural & org investments

What we're looking for:
- 1215 years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience leading 15-30 member multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Demonstrated ability to deeply understand business/product vision and translate it into strong technical strategy and execution
- Proven track record of building and scaling consumer internet platforms, including high-scale user engagement, real-time interactions, and mobile-first experiences
- Strong understanding of modern system architecture, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous and evolving environments. Prior experience in product-driven tech companies or startups strongly preferred
- Strong architectural thinking with pragmatic tradeoffs and a high bar for engineering quality without bureaucracy
- Ability to coach and develop engineering leaders with excellent cross-functional communication
- Comfort designing systems where reliability, performance, and user experience directly impact real-world outcomes
- Ability to deeply understand our domain sports, communities, venues, partners, and offline-online interactions and reflect that understanding in architectural and technical decisions
