Head of Design
Location: Ahmedabad (flexible for the right candidate)
Company: Ecoright
About Ecoright
Ecoright is a fast-growing sustainable lifestyle brand building thoughtfully designed, eco-friendly products with a strong focus on prints, materials, and everyday usability.
We're looking for a Head of Product & Merchandising to own our collections end-to-end — from concept to launch — and help shape the next phase of our product and category expansion.
Role Overview
This is a high-ownership role at the intersection of design, merchandising, and business.
You will define:
- What we create
- Why we create it
- How it performs
This role goes beyond design — it requires strong collection planning, range building, and commercial thinking.
Key Responsibilities
Collection Strategy & Planning
- Build annual and quarterly collection calendars
- Define themes, stories, and mood boards
- Plan seasonal and occasion-based drops (festive, gifting, travel, etc.)
- Own range architecture: SKU count, category mix, and price ladder
Product Development
- Lead end-to-end product creation from concept to launch
- Define materials (cotton, recycled fabrics, blends, trims)
- Drive print direction, color palettes, and overall design language
- Identify and develop new product categories beyond bags
Merchandising & Commercial Ownership
- Plan assortment (depth vs width) across collections
- Drive bestseller identification and scale-up
- Balance creativity, cost, and inventory risk
- Align collections with business goals and sales targets
Cross-functional Execution
- Work closely with design, sourcing, and operations teams
- Ensure smooth execution from concept to sampling to production to launch
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 6–12 years of experience in lifestyle, accessories, home, or D2C brands
- Strong experience in collection planning (not just designing products)
- Experience in range or assortment planning
- Background in print-led or textile-led product development
- Ability to balance aesthetic sensibility with commercial thinking
- Exposure to multi-category product environments
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Fashion, Textile Design, Product Design, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent hands-on experience in product and merchandising roles will also be considered
Bonus
- Experience with sustainable materials
- Background in bags, accessories, or home products
- Experience in fast-moving D2C brands
- Experience launching or scaling new product categories
Key Skills
- Product Merchandising
- Range Planning
- Collection Development
- Assortment Planning
- Trend Forecasting
- Textile / Surface / Print Design
- Category Management
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
- Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Strong aesthetic and storytelling ability
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short case study involving collection planning and product strategy.
What We're Looking For
Someone who can think in collections, not just products; stories, not just designs; and business impact, not just aesthetics.
Why This Role
- High ownership and creative freedom
- Opportunity to shape a fast-growing brand
- Direct impact on product, brand, and category expansion
If this excites you, apply with examples of collections you've built or contributed to.
