The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced architect who has transitioned into residential interior design and wants to lead not just design. This is a leadership role where you own the entire design output of the company with a quality benchmark.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for the Head of Design Department, based in Kochi.
Design Ownership
- Lead the design of all residential interior projects from concept to production-ready drawings
- Read every room's volume, natural light, proportions, and fixed elements before designing
- Ensure every design is holistic not a collection of isolated furniture choices, but a cohesive living space
- Sign off on all designs before they reach clients
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of designers (2D technical specialists, 3D visualizers, junior designers)
- Run daily design standups assign work, remove blockers, review output
- Develop original design ideas to brief 3D visualizers clearly
- Set and maintain design quality standards that the team can self-evaluate against
Client Engagement
- Present design concepts to clients independently walk them through the vision for their home
- Guide material selection sessions (laminates, tiles, hardware, lighting) with design coherence
- Handle design objections and revisions without escalating to the CEO
- Build client trust so they feel confident in the design team, not just the founder
Qualifications
- B.Arch degree with 4+ years of experience in residential interior design
- 15+ executed residential projects designed, built, and photographed
- Team leadership experience has managed 35+ designers, not just worked alongside them
- Spatial design fundamentals thinks in volumes, light direction, proportions, and circulation before materials
- Client presentation skills presents holistic room concepts in Malayalam and English
- Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, or equivalent for quick spatial concepts
- Ability to build cohesive material palettes across tiles, laminates, upholstery, paint, curtains, and lighting
- Budget-conscious design approach can design premium spaces within defined cost parameters
