Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Data Platform to lead the design, development, and evolution of our enterprise-scale data platform. This role requires a strong hands-on technical background combined with proven leadership experience to drive data strategy, scalability, security, and business alignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the data platform vision, roadmap, and technical strategy aligned with business objectives
- Lead, mentor, and scale high-performing data and backend engineering teams
- Architect and review high-level (HLD) and low-level designs (LLD) for scalable, resilient systems
- Drive adoption of best practices in distributed systems, data processing, and cloud-native architectures
- Oversee implementation of data governance, security, privacy, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, SOC2, etc.)
- Collaborate closely with product, business, and leadership stakeholders to deliver impactful data solutions
- Ensure platform reliability, performance, cost optimization, and operational excellence
- Champion DevOps, automation, and observability across the data platform ecosystem
Required Skills & Experience
- 12+ years of experience in software and/or data engineering
- 3+ years of experience in engineering leadership or managerial roles
- Strong backend development expertise in Java, PHP, Python, Node.js, GoLang, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Scala for data processing and analytics
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their data services
- Solid foundation in HLD, LLD, and design patterns (Spring Boot or Google Guice preferred)
- Hands-on experience with big data and distributed systems: Spark, Hadoop, Kafka
- Experience with data warehousing technologies: Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery
- Deep knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance standards
- Experience with NoSQL databases: Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB, TiDB
- Familiarity with DevOps and automation tools: Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Chef, Grafana, ELK
- Strong ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Nice to Have
- Experience building large-scale data platforms in high-growth or product-based environments
- Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid cloud architectures
- Strong understanding of cost optimization and performance tuning for data systems
