Job Description

Head - GEECThe Head of GEEC provides strategic leadership for global HR operations, delivering a seamless, compliant, and employee-centric service model across the organization. The role oversees end-to-end employee lifecycle services, global payroll governance, statutory compliance, annual reporting, audit readiness, and HR data integrity across geographies. The incumbent drives service excellence through strong case management, self-service and chatbot enablement, and continuous process improvement. By identifying automation and optimization opportunities and partnering with HR Technology for solution design and adoption (including Workday enhancements), the role advances digital transformation across HR operations.

Reporting Structure

The position reports to the Chief Human Resource Officer, PPL. Team size - 20 employees, including 4 managers and associates across various workstreams within GEEC

Qualification

  • MBA in HR or equivalent postgraduate degree, Graduation in Science and Engg will be preferred

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in HR, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Exposure to end-to-end employee life cycle processes
  • Experience in managing global HR operations, including hands-on experience with any HRMS.

Critical Qualities

  • Deep knowledge of end-to-end payroll, compliance, audits, HR data governance, and annual reporting.
  • Strong focus on designing employee-centric services, case management, and chatbot/self-service solutions
  • Advanced Excel, Eye for detail, reporting, and familiarity with HR systems to generate actionable insights.
  • Process-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy, standardization, continuous improvement, and scalable operations.
  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams, develop talent, drive change management, and implement digital/automation solutions in partnership with HR Technology.

Employee Service & Experience Excellence

  • Review and refine the GEEC strategy and roadmap in alignment with enterprise HR priorities and evolving business needs.
  • Champion a best-in-class employee experience across the entire employee lifecycle (hire to retire).
  • Design and implement scalable global service delivery models that are employee-centric, responsive, and easy to navigate.
  • Establish and monitor service metrics (SLAs, TAT, CSAT, NPS) to continuously enhance service quality.
  • Strengthen self-service capabilities, knowledge management frameworks, and communication channels to improve accessibility and transparency.

HR Data Governance & Reporting

  • Establish and maintain strong HR data governance standards, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ensure data readiness for internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Oversee preparation and validation of annual HR reporting, statutory workforce disclosures, and compliance submissions.
  • Strengthen data controls, documentation, and SOPs to support audit trails and reporting transparency.
  • Drive data quality improvement initiatives in partnership with HRBPs and HR Technology teams.
  • Identify and mitigate operational, compliance, and data privacy risks across HR processes, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory frameworks.

Process Excellence And Digital Enablement

  • Identify process improvement and automation opportunities across HR operations.
  • Partner with HR Leadership to continuously evolve the HR operating model, optimizing centralization, automation, and service effectiveness
  • Define business requirements and partner with the HR Technology team to design appropriate system solutions (including HRMS optimization).
  • Collaborate closely with HR Tech on implementation, testing, change management, and adoption of new tools and enhancements.
  • Drive the effective deployment of case management platforms and AI-enabled solutions (e.g., HR chatbots) to enhance self-service and reduce manual effort.
  • Establish governance mechanisms and operating rhythms to ensure consistent and efficient service delivery across geographies and businesses.

Global Payroll Leadership & Compliance

  • Own end-to-end payroll governance (Currently India), ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Lead the strategic consolidation of payroll operations across geographies, transitioning country-managed payroll processes into a centralized, standardized, and well-governed global payroll model.
  • Ensure compliance with local statutory regulations, tax laws, labor laws, and global corporate policies including meeting with statutory bodies wherever required.
  • Oversee payroll reconciliations, variance analysis, payroll funding, provisioning, statutory disclosures and financial controls in partnership with Finance.
  • Ensure timely statutory filings, year-end payroll activities, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Manage payroll audits (internal and external), respond to auditor queries, and ensure timely remediation of findings.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing, service-oriented GEEC team.
  • Develop internal talent pipelines and strengthen succession planning.
  • Enhance team capabilities through cross-skilling, upskilling, and leadership development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, compliance discipline, and continuous improvement.

Vendor & Partner Governance

  • Manage relationships with external payroll, HR services vendors, ensuring service quality, cost efficiency, and contractual compliance.
  • Establish performance metrics and governance mechanisms to monitor vendor delivery and drive continuous improvement.
