We're looking for an experienced and highly skilled Grid Compliance Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design, analysis, and integration of cutting-edge electrical systems for our wind energy products. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience specifically utilizing PSCAD and PSSE for transient and dynamic studies in power systems, preferably within the renewable energy or wind manufacturing sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- PSCAD Modelling & Simulation:
- Develop, refine, and validate detailed PSSE/PSCAD/EMTDC models of wind turbine generators, power converters, transformers, collector systems, and overall wind farm electrical systems.
- Perform comprehensive electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies including switching transients, lightning surges, short-circuit analysis, and temporary over voltages (TOV).
- Conduct sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) and sub-synchronous control interaction (SSCI) studies as required by grid codes or project specifications.
- Understanding of synthetic inertia requirements from grid codes.
- Grid Integration & Compliance:
- Analyse and ensure compliance with various grid codes (e.g., IEGC, specific utility requirements, etc.,) concerning fault ride-through (FRT), reactive power capability, power quality, and dynamic voltage/frequency support.
- Determine and optimize control parameters for wind turbine converters to meet grid requirements and enhance system performance.
- Prepare and review Grid Impact Studies (GIS) and technical documentation for interconnection agreements.
- Design & System Analysis:
- Contribute to the electrical design and specification of wind turbine components (e.g., converter topologies, filters, protection schemes).
- Execute dynamic performance studies, stability analysis, and transient stability assessments to optimize system reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with controls, hardware, and system integration teams to translate simulation results into robust design specifications.
- Testing & Validation:
- Support Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and Field-Testing activities to validate PSCAD models against real-world performance data.
Education:Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
Experience:Minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in power system analysis, with a significant focus on PSSE/PSCAD/EMTDC software.
Domain Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of wind turbine generator technology (e.g., DFIG, Full-Converter) and associated control strategies.
- Proven experience in modelling power electronic converters (e.g., VSC, MMC) in PSCAD.
- Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and standards for renewable energy.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in other power system analysis tools (e.g., PSSE, Power Factory) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of driverless PMSG wind generators, transmission and distribution system fundamentals.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills for technical documentation.
