Job Title: GHG Auditor

Role Overview

The Energy Audit Professional will be responsible for conducting independent assessments, audits, and assurance engagements across industrial, commercial, and residential energy and carbon reduction projects. The role involves evaluating compliance with relevant national and international standards, verifying energy savings and emission reductions, and providing assurance in alignment with recognized verification and validation frameworks.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in energy systems, carbon accounting, and audit methodologies, along with demonstrated expertise in ISAE 3000, ISO 14065:2020, and ISO/IEC 17029:2019 standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audit and Verification
  • Plan, conduct, and report on audits and assurance engagements in accordance with ISAE 3000 and related assurance standards.
  • Evaluate projects for compliance with ISO 14065:2020 and ISO/IEC 17029:2019 requirements for greenhouse gas validation and verification bodies.
  • Review, verify, and validate data, methodologies, and results for energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and carbon removal projects.
  • Technical Evaluation
  • Audit industrial and residential energy reduction and carbon removal projects, including but not limited to:
  • Energy Efficiency: Lighting, heat pumps, household appliances, building systems.
  • Fuel Switching: Evaluation of energy source transitions and emission impacts.
  • Renewable Energy: Solar PV, battery storage, and hybrid systems.
  • Carbon Removal: Biochar, biomass burial, BECCS, and related technologies.
  • Standards and Compliance
  • Conduct assurance engagements across recognized domestic and international standards and schemes such as:
  • Australian Programs: NSW Energy Saving Scheme, Victorian Energy Upgrade Scheme.
  • International Programs: Verra, Gold Standard, CDM, Puro.earth, Isometric, and other emerging carbon removal frameworks.
  • Ensure all audit work aligns with quality, independence, and ethical standards as defined under ISAE 3000 and ISO 14065 frameworks.
  • Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare detailed audit reports and assurance statements with clear findings and recommendations.
  • Maintain robust documentation, evidence records, and audit trails consistent with accreditation requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Stay up to date with evolving methodologies, standards, and policies in the energy and carbon sectors.
  • Contribute to process improvements and internal quality assurance programs.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Management, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of:
  • ISAE 3000 Assurance Engagements Other than Audits or Reviews of Historical Financial Information.
  • ISO 14065:2020 Greenhouse gases: Requirements for greenhouse gas validation and verification bodies.
  • ISO/IEC 17029:2019 Conformity assessment: General principles and requirements for validation and verification bodies.
  • Proven experience auditing energy efficiency, renewable energy, and carbon reduction/removal projects.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience providing assurance against national and international frameworks, including:
  • NSW Energy Saving Scheme
  • Victorian Energy Upgrade Scheme
  • Verra, Gold Standard, CDM, Puro.earth, Isometric, or similar.
  • Accreditation or training in energy auditing, GHG verification, or sustainability assurance.
  • Professional certifications such as CEA (Certified Energy Auditor), CMVP, or Lead Auditor qualifications in ISO standards (e.g., ISO 14064, ISO 50001).
