About the Role
Strategic breakdown of this Role:
1. Market Expansion & Client Acquisition
The primary mandate is to move the buying house beyond its current comfort zone.
* Targeting New Territories: Identifying emerging or untapped markets (e.g., expanding from Middle East dominance into the EU or US markets).
* Client Prospecting: Managing the full sales lifecycle—from Cold-to-Closed—with international retailers, wholesalers, and e-commerce giants.
* Competitive Intelligence: Benchmarking the house's commission rates and lead times against rival sourcing hubs in Bangladesh, Vietnam, or Turkey.
2. Strategic Portfolio Development
This involves diversifying the product mix to ensure the business isn't reliant on a single season or category.
* Category Expansion: If the house currently excels in basic knits, the GM-BD might lead a push into high-margin technical outerwear or sustainable home textiles.
* Value-Added Services: Selling more than just sourcing—marketing the house's ability to provide 3D design sampling (CLO 3D), rapid prototyping, or ethical compliance auditing.
3. Supply Chain Backward Integration
To win new business, you must prove the house can handle the volume and complexity.
* Vendor Onboarding: Vetting and securing Strategic Partner status with Tier-1 factories that have the specific certifications (WRAP, GOTS) required by new premium clients.
* Cost Engineering: Developing innovative pricing models that allow the house to undercut competitors without sacrificing the margin structure.
What We're Looking For
* Commercial Acumen: The ability to look at a garment and instantly estimate FOB (Free On Board) costs and landed price in the destination country.
* Proven Relationship Management: A Black Book of contacts within international retail buying offices.
* Negotiation Mastery: Navigating the gap between a buyer's Target Price and a factory's Floor Price.
