Role Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Freelance Senior ETL / Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize large-scale data pipelines and backend data systems. This role is suited for engineers with deep ETL specialization, strong Python and SQL skills, and a heavy database project background.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL and data ingestion pipelines

Build pipelines for non-traditional data acquisition including web scraping, API ingestion, and external data sources

Develop Python-based data processing and automation frameworks

Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data transformation and validation

Design and optimize database schemas and data models

Build backend services and APIs supporting data platforms and search systems

Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across pipelines

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand internal systems and data flows

Required Skills and Experience

8+ years of hands-on experience in ETL, data engineering, or backend data platforms

Strong Python expertise with a data-first mindset

Advanced SQL skills with experience in performance tuning

Deep experience working on database-heavy projects

Hands-on experience with MongoDB and NoSQL data stores

Familiarity with cloud databases such as DynamoDB, Redshift, Spanner, Bigtable, or similar

Strong backend orientation including API design and database modeling

Experience working with large-scale, production data pipelines

Cloud and Platform Preferences

Google Cloud Platform preferred

AWS experience acceptable

Experience in multi-cloud or hybrid environments is a plus

Additional Notes

Strong ETL specialization is mandatory

This is not a generic backend or full-stack role

Domain knowledge of complex internal systems is valuable for faster ramp-up
