Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Data Management Intern to support our data governance, data quality, and data operations initiatives. This role offers hands-on experience working with enterprise data platforms, metadata management, data quality assessment, documentation, and process improvement. The intern will collaborate with data stewards, analysts, and business teams to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and well-governed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Quality & Validation
- Assist in monitoring, profiling, and validating data across key datasets.
- Identify data anomalies, missing values, and integrity issues.
- Support root-cause analysis for recurring data quality problems.
2. Metadata & Documentation
- Help maintain metadata repositories, business glossaries, and data dictionaries.
- Document data flows, lineage, and process maps under guidance from senior team members.
- Support cataloging and classification of datasets.
3. Data Governance Support
- Assist in implementing data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
- Work with data owners and data stewards to update governance documents.
- Help track and manage data stewardship tasks.
4. Reporting & Analysis
- Assist in preparing dashboards and reports using Excel, Power BI, or other tools.
- Pull data extracts and perform basic data analysis to support business initiatives.
5. Process Improvement
- Participate in process reviews and propose improvements for data management workflows.
- Help automate manual tasks where possible (e.g., using Excel macros, scripts, or Power Automate).
6. Collaboration
- Work closely with data engineering, analytics, and business teams on data-related needs.
- Attend team meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
- Basic understanding of databases, data structures, and data lifecycle.
- Familiarity with SQL and data analysis concepts.
- Proficient in Excel exposure to analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Understanding of ETL concepts, data warehousing, or cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Knowledge of metadata tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation) is a bonus.
- Exposure to data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA DMBoK).
