Department Description

Global HR Shared Services function is a central hub of capabilities to provide HR Support Services, Payroll & Background Vetting services to staff and HR teams across all business areas. The objective of the function is to leverage HR technology infrastructure to deliver efficient HR processes and aim for operational excellence globally. Our team members are based in key hub locations across India, Asia, UK and Europe to provide these services globally within FIL. The Service Delivery Team sits within the Global HR Shared Services function and works in partnership with Compensation & Benefits, HR Business Partners and business groups to provide assistance in the area of HR administrative services and Payroll & Benefits related activities. The team is responsible for managing the payroll and administrating the benefits for the organization's international locations, for designing and implementing various HR administrative practices and procedures, as well as for the maintenance of employee records and delivering services in a consistent and effective way across the organization.

The Payroll team sits within the Global HR Shared Services function and works in partnership with Reward (Compensation & Benefits), HR Support, HR Business Partners and other business groups and provides assistance in the area of Payroll and related activities.

Purpose of the Role

We are seeking professionals for our India Payroll team, responsible for the preparation and processing of payrolls across multiple entities in India. The role involves close coordination with payroll vendor to ensure timely and accurate preparation of payroll data. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll and benefits, and will work collaboratively with the Reward (Compensation & Benefits) team and the regional HR Support team. This role also requires regular interaction with Finance teams to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of payroll-related matters. It is particularly suited to individuals who demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

The jobholder will be required to:

  • Process payroll for various legal entities with support from outsourced payroll partners and manage associated administrative tasks.
  • Verify and validate HR data received through Workday.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of employee compensation from Gross to Net.
  • Support the Payroll Manager in month-end consolidation activities.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly payroll report and payment summaries
  • Process off-cycle payments, including additional BACS and manual payments.
  • Develop expertise in social security, tax regulations, and benefits for assigned countries.
  • Provide the Finance department with accrual data, summaries, and payment reconciliations, and respond to related inquiries.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements by providing relevant information and assistance.
  • Participate in projects aimed at automating payroll and benefits processes update work procedures and prepare reports and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with the Global Mobility Team on payroll aspects related to international assignees and transferees.
  • Work closely with the HR Service Delivery team to ensure accurate and timely updates to employee data for new hires, terminations, and changes.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and HR colleagues across the organization to share best practices act as a liaison to address queries, propose solutions, and assist in decision-making.
  • Recommend improvements and participate in developing new policies and procedures related to payroll and benefits operations.
  • Perform other payroll tasks as required, including providing backup support for team members managing payroll for other countries.
  • Ensure timely response to employee queries in accordance with established service metrics.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Minimum 5-8 years of overall experience.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in India payroll (mandatory).
  • Experience in India tax and payroll compliance is an added advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree in commerce or finance.
  • Excellent communication skills and Fluent English.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and analytical capabilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Customer-focused with strong business acumen.
  • Proactive and hands-on approach with a positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with payroll platforms and Workday.
  • Understanding HR processes and basic accounting principles.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
