Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Payroll HRIS Analyst with strong Workday expertise to join our client's payroll team on a freelance basis.
This role requires a combination of deep technical knowledge in Workday Payroll configuration and strong functional understanding of payroll and accounting processes.
You will act as a bridge between Payroll, HR, Accounting, and IT teams, ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain Workday Payroll (earnings, deductions, taxes, payroll calendars, GL mapping)
- Collaborate with Payroll, HR, and Finance teams to gather and translate business requirements
- Manage general ledger (GL) mapping rules and payroll accounting integrations
- Plan and execute payroll testing (validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting)
- Support system changes, deployments, and business process updates
- Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and legal requirements
- Create and maintain payroll reports, dashboards, and analytics
- Maintain data integrity and governance across payroll systems
- Provide end-user training and support for payroll teams
- Monitor Workday releases and coordinate system enhancements
- Drive continuous improvements in payroll processes and system efficiency
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Workday Payroll configuration and support
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, tax calculations, and compliance
- Experience with GL mapping and payroll accounting integration
- Understanding of FLSA and multi-state payroll regulations
- Experience building Workday payroll reports (results-based reporting)
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills
- Ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders (Payroll, HR, Finance, IT)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience in HRIS data governance, system optimization, and change management
Nice to Have
- Experience with Workday integrations (Time Tracking, Absence, Compensation)
- Exposure to audit support and payroll reconciliation processes
- Experience working in global payroll environments
