Our client, IT and cybersecurity organization that manages critical systems and strengthens digital resilience for the central banking ecosystem, is looking for a Payroll Expert conversant with payroll management and processes, government norms (including recent wage codes and their impact), tax matters, and benefits. The role requires the ability to vet payroll systems and ensure clearly laid-out processes with strong checks and balances.
We are looking for a seasoned Payroll SME who will work closely with the Business Analyst (BA) Lead /Architect to drive detailed requirement discovery, functional design, and configuration of payroll modules within an HRMS platform.
The SME will play a critical role in asking the right functional and statutory questions, uncovering payroll nuances, and ensuring that business requirements are translated into precise, compliant, and scalable system logic.
This is not a pure operations role — it is a functional design & solutioning role
Key Role Expectations:
1. Payroll Discovery & Requirement Elicitation
- Partner with the BA teams during requirement workshops
- Ask structured and probing questions to uncover:
- Salary structure complexities
- Allowance logic & eligibility conditions
- Variable pay treatment
- Arrears & retro processing rules
- Shift / attendance integration nuances
- State-wise statutory variations
- Union/settlement clauses (if applicable)
- Identify exceptions, edge cases, and historical deviations.
- Document payroll business rules with clarity and precision.
- Key Value Add: Ability to identify gaps the user team may not articulate explicitly.
2. Functional Design & Payroll Logic Mapping
- Translate payroll nuances into:
- Component-level configuration logic
- Formula definitions
- Tax and statutory mapping
- GL mapping requirements
- Validation rules
- Support preparation of:
- BRD (Business Requirement Document)
- FSD (Functional Specification Document)
- Configuration Workbooks
- Ensure alignment between payroll, time & attendance, and finance modules.
3. Compliance & Risk Assurance
- Ensure payroll design adheres to:
- Income Tax Act
- PF, ESIC, Bonus, Gratuity
- Labour Codes (as applicable)
- Central / State labour regulations
- Validate statutory reporting logic.
- Anticipate compliance risks during solution design.
4. Implementation & UAT Support
- Support payroll configuration and rule setup
- Drive payroll scenario validation
- Define UAT test cases covering
- Regular payroll
- Retro / arrears
- Promotions / transfers
- Full & Final settlement
- Validate parallel payroll runs
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Works closely with:
- SR/ Lead BA (requirement structuring)
- Product/Tech team (system configuration)
- Finance (GL & cost mapping)
- HR Operations (process validation)
- Act as the functional authority for payroll queries

Skills Required
- 8-10 years of core payroll experience
- At least 2–3 payroll system implementation cycles
- Experience in HRMS platforms (SAP / Oracle / Workday / Ramco / Darwinbox / PeopleStrong / Custom HRMS)
- Strong knowledge of Indian payroll compliance
- Experience in regulated / PSU / BFSI environments preferred
