What Education required to be a footballer

A formal education is not required to pursue a career as a footballer. Yet it is advised to pursue at least an undergraduate degree course if not PG course in physical education or sports courses in order to be equipped for a career once you retire from playing the sport.

What is Referee Courses

The referee programs offered by AIFF provides the aspirants with a deep understanding of the laws of the game and provides them with the knowledge and practical skills to be a match referee.

The AIFF offers programs which are divided category-wise with levels 1 to 5.

For instance, Category 5 referees officiate state-level competitions organised by the State Associations whereas Category 1 referees officiate national-level matches.

What is AIFF Masters Program

It is a National Sports Federation-led Football Management Program that is run by the AIFF in association with La LigaClub Cadiz CF. In this program students can study in multiple cities in India and in Spain.

It aims to produce Football Managers with world-class management skills in order to promote sports in the country.

Some of the skills required to realise your full potential as a footballer are listed below:

  • As the game revolves around the ball, its control is very important. The way you dribble the ball and pass it on to your teammates with accuracy and control is very crucial for the game. A coordinated effort and ability to collect the ball and take control of it using your feet, legs, chest and head is referred to as ball control.
  • Once in control of the ball, moving it along the pitch in different directions and speed and dodging the opposing team is where your dribbling skills come to the forefront.
  • Aiming for the goal post all the while moving the ball along with both feet and passing it on to one's own team with accuracy is instrumental in securing the goal. .
  • One must also develop the ability to make quick decisions on the field that too under pressure. Spatial awareness is needed to assess the distance and angle while aiming for the goal post. This includes awareness of the positions of other team members including the opposing team.
  • The knowledge of the nature and structure of the game is used to strategise and decide the tactics that will help the team to win the game. Thus tactical knowledge is very important. Not just creating the right moment to attack but also anticipating the opposition's move is beneficial for the team.
  • A lot of risk assessment goes into understanding the ploy and sometimes aggressive decisions could result in losing the ball. A tremendous amount of energy is then reinvested to get back control of the ball.
  • As in any sport, physical fitness should be at its best as a football game could take up 90 - 95 minutes of playing on the field. This requires endurance, balance, coordination, and speed.
