Job Description

NHS Golden Jubilee provides specialist care to patients from across Scotland and beyond. Our Catering Service plays a vital role in supporting patient recovery and wellbeing by delivering safe, nutritious and high-quality food and beverage services to patients, visitors, staff, hospital departments and on‑site business tenants.

Based at Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, our catering team works collaboratively to ensure all services meet required Food Safety, Health & Safety, and nutrition standards, while maintaining a caring and professional approach within a busy healthcare environment.

About The Role

The main focus of this post is the provision of patient and visitor catering services across Golden Jubilee Hospital, ensuring a consistent, high-quality service for all customers.

Working as part of a team on a 5 days over 7 days rota, including weekends, with possible 12‑hour shifts, you will deliver a patient‑ and visitor‑focused service across a range of catering areas.

The Role Is Varied And Will Involve Working Across

  • Patient ward galleys, supporting meal services and assisting patients with menu choices and dietary requirements
  • Staff and visitor dining areas, providing food and beverage service and operating tills in a busy environment
  • Vending services, including filling, cleaning and reconciling multiple high‑use vending machines across the hospital

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Delivering food and beverages in line with Food Safety, Fluid and Nutrition Standards
  • Providing a friendly, professional and compassionate service to patients, visitors, staff and tenants
  • Accurate till operation and cash handling
  • Completing required food safety, temperature monitoring, finance and service documentation
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness across all service and galley areas
  • Working flexibly between service areas as required by the rota

Full training will be provided, with a structured four‑week training programme at full‑time hours, allowing you to gain experience across all aspects of the role.

About You

We are looking for motivated and reliable individuals who enjoy working in a fast‑paced catering or customer service environment and take pride in delivering excellent service.

You Will Have

  • Experience working in a busy food service or customer service setting, ideally including till operation
  • Experience of cash handling and working to set procedures and standards
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, nutrition, health & safety policies and procedures
  • The ability to work to tight timescales while maintaining attention to detail
  • Good communication skills, with a calm and caring approach when engaging with patients and visitors
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including early starts, late finishes and weekends

An Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate is essential (training can be supported if required). Experience within an NHS or healthcare environment would be advantageous, but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
