Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Financial Controller based in Gurugram. The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Key responsibilities include financial reporting, analyzing financial data, managing budgets, auditing, and optimizing financial processes to support the company's growth objectives. The role also entails collaborating with internal teams to drive informed decision-making and implementing best practices in financial management and control.

Role Summary

The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing the company's finance and accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, statutory compliance, and effective working capital management. The role requires hands-on involvement in FMCG operations, including offline distribution, eCommerce, and import transactions involving Letters of Credit (LCs). Incumbent should be capable of managing, guiding, and leading a team of 3-4 high-performing individuals.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate books of accounts in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure timely closing of accounts and reconciliation of all balance sheet items.
  • Support management with MIS reports, variance analysis, and financial insights.

Compliance & Statutory Matters

  • Ensure compliance with GST, TDS, income tax, and other applicable laws.
  • Coordinate with statutory auditors, internal auditors, and tax consultants.
  • Manage GST filings, reconciliations (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B), and audits.
  • Assist in tax assessments, notices, and responses.

Working Capital & Cash Flow Management

  • Monitor receivables, payables, inventory, and cash flows.
  • Control credit limits and ageing for distributors and eCommerce platforms.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and manage fund utilisation efficiently.

FMCG Operations Offline & Online

  • Understand offline distribution models, including distributors, super stockists, schemes, incentives, and returns.
  • Handle accounting for trade schemes, discounts, and sales returns.
  • Manage reconciliation and accounting for eCommerce platforms (Amazon, Flipkart, D2C, etc.), including commissions, settlements, and chargebacks.

Import & Banking Operations

  • Handle import-related accounting, including customs duty, freight, and clearing charges.
  • Manage LC transactions including documentation, bank coordination, and accounting entries.
  • Liaise with banks for day-to-day operations, limits, and compliance requirements.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Implement and monitor internal financial controls and SOPs.
  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements for efficiency and risk reduction.
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit trails.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) Mandatory
  • 2 to 4 years of post-qualification experience
  • Prior experience in FMCG, consumer goods, or retail businesses preferred
  • Exposure to both offline distribution and e-commerce accounting is essential
  • Experience in import accounting and LC transactions is required

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and compliance requirements
  • Hands-on and detail-oriented approach
  • Good working knowledge of ERP/accounting software (Tally, SAP, or similar)
  • Ability to work in a fast-growing, operationally intensive environment
  • Clear communication and coordination skills
