Corporate Sector Controllers is responsible for financial and operational accounting activities, internal controls, and financial reporting for the Corporate LOBs (ex T/CIO and Private Equity), as well as centrally managed Firmwide accounting activities. The Corporate Sector Controllers global LOB coverage areas include Global Real Estate, Human Resources, Central Technology, Legal, Tax, Compliance, Corporate Responsibility, Communication, Strategy, Regulatory Affairs, Oversight & Control, JPMC Foundation, Corporate Contributions, Sourcing & Procurement, Global Services, Operational Control, Corporate Other and Corporate Staff Functions.

Global Technology Controller provide controllership support to technology function in to Hardware, Software, Professional services and other direct expense lines. Team is also responsible for capitalization of tangible or intangible assets.

Job responsibilities

  • Accounting for Technology Lifecycle refresh comprising in accordance with USGAAP and JPMC Standards.
  • Determine expense versus capitalization treatment, ensure timely recognition of disposals, and post all close entries with appropriate supporting documentation and approvals.
  • Partner with Technology, P&A, Business Management, and Procurement to align on project scopes, in service dates, and cutover timing maintain SOX compliant controls and audit ready evidence.
  • Ensure policies are applied consistently, documented and queries are addressed promptly.
  • Perform ongoing review of in process ledger balances, including aging analysis, root cause identification for aged items, and timely clearing to fixed assets or expenses once capitalization criteria are met.
  • Reconcile WIP to upstream project and procurement systems validate against purchase orders, capitalization requests, and approvals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform capitalization of technology assets in with JPMC Standards, Policy and Procedures.
  • Evaluate projects against capitalization thresholds and qualifying criteria determine start/stop capitalization dates, placeinservice dates, and appropriate useful lives and residual values.
  • Ensure complete and accurate supporting documentation and secondary review, approvals, etc.
  • Perform Fixed Assets Impairment review in accordance with JPMC Standards, Policy and Procedures.
  • Execute impairment analyses, including carrying value reviews, usefullife updates, and recognition of partial or full impairments with proper measurement, documentation, and approvals.
  • Partner with Technology and Business stakeholders to validate operational impacts and future benefit assumptions ensure entries are recorded accurately and timely in the general ledger.
  • Record accruals & prepaids to ensure that expenses are recognized in the appropriate period in accordance with US GAAP and JPMC Standards.
  • Fortress Balance Sheet - Ensure balance sheet positions are appropriately supported.
  • Review Month over Month actual results to ensure significant fluctuations are reasonable based on underlying activity.
  • Analytics are documented in various forms including Estimates, Walk-forwards, Controllers financial reviews, Flash reports etc.
  • Balance Sheet Reviews - Perform balance sheet reviews with appropriate stakeholders.
  • General Ledger Attestation - Reconciliation & Substantiation
  • Partner with P&A, Business Management, Business etc. in reviewing and understanding unique or significant transactions to ensure the accounting treatment is appropriate
  • Compliance with various control programs such as User Tools, Record Retention, etc. Ensure the accuracy and validity of line of business general ledger accounts, including adherence to the firmwide General Ledger Attestation (GLA) standards
  • Ensure adherence to P&L and Balance Sheet controls owned by Financial Control, including identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiency
  • Analyze, communicate, and resolve material variances between the general ledger and upstream systems, as defined by line of business

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 3 years of related experience
  • General Ledger experience
  • Experience with financial reporting and month end close responsibilities
  • Comfortable liaising with business and risk managers
  • Able to build and maintain partnerships within the various product aligned businesses and across other corporate financial, treasury, and accounting groups
  • Able to understand business drivers and requirements and influence middle and front office partners to deliver solutions to business issues and problems
  • Strong analytical skills: Ability to quickly understand workings of a complex processing system and general ledger systems across the infrastructure and their interrelationships and dependencies
  • Excellent desktop/spreadsheet/database skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to multi-task in a constantly changing environment
  • Able to critically challenge with the goal of identifying control issues

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Existing relationships and networks within the firm's IB community an advantage
  • Preferably a CA, CFA, CPA or Bachelor's degree in Accounting
