Job Description

Role Summary

We are looking for a Finance Controller who will build and lead a robust financial operating system for the company as we scale to 100Cr and beyond. This role will be responsible for ensuring financial discipline, accurate reporting, strong compliance, and strategic financial planning across the organization.

The Finance Controller will oversee accounting and compliance operations while also driving financial planning, forecasting, cashflow management, and profitability analysis. The role will partner closely with the founder and leadership team to provide financial insights, build reporting systems and dashboards, and ensure the company operates with strong financial clarity and control.

This is a leadership role that combines financial governance, operational finance, and strategic financial analysis, enabling better decision-making and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Accounting Governance

  • Oversee the company's accounting operations and ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable standards.
  • Ensure timely closing of monthly and annual books with strong reconciliation and audit readiness.
  • Maintain compliance with GST, TDS, and other statutory requirements, ensuring all filings and obligations are completed on time
  • Strengthen financial governance through disciplined documentation, audit trails, and well-defined financial controls.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and compliance partners to ensure regulatory alignment and best practices.

Financial Planning, Forecasting & Business Insights

  • Lead the company's financial planning process including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial projections.
  • Build financial models to support expansion decisions, new initiatives, and capital allocation.
  • Analyze revenue drivers, cost structures, and margins to provide clear insights into business performance.
  • Conduct regular variance analysis between budgeted and actual performance and highlight key drivers.
  • Translate financial data into actionable insights that help leadership make informed business decisions.

Cashflow, Capital & Financial Discipline

  • Develop rolling cashflow forecasts and maintain visibility on short-term and long-term liquidity.
  • Monitor receivables, payables, and working capital cycles to ensure strong financial discipline.
  • Support capital planning and evaluate financial implications of major business decisions or investments.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize cost structures and improve overall financial efficiency.

Financial Reporting & Business Performance Monitoring

  • Build reliable MIS reporting frameworks that provide clear visibility into financial performance.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting systems that track key financial metrics, ratios, and operational performance indicators.
  • Enable leadership teams to monitor profitability, cost efficiency, and financial health across the organization.
  • Ensure financial reporting evolves alongside business growth and increasing operational complexity.

Financial Systems, Controls & Process Excellence

  • Design and strengthen financial systems, processes, and SOPs to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and scalability as the company grows.
  • Continuously improve operational efficiency within finance by identifying bottlenecks, reducing manual dependencies, and implementing automation.
  • Establish strong internal controls, standardized workflows, and approval mechanisms to minimize errors and ensure financial integrity.
  • Build monitoring frameworks and dashboards that proactively flag anomalies, unusual trends, or financial inconsistencies.
  • Integrate finance systems with CRM, analytics, and reporting tools to create reliable and seamless financial data flows.

Finance Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop the finance function as a high-performing team that supports the company's growth and decision-making.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and capability building for the accounting, MIS, and finance operations teams.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations across the finance department.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and professional excellence within the team.
  • Strengthen the team's ability to move beyond accounting into business finance, financial analysis, and strategic thinking.
  • Identify skill gaps within the team and hire, develop, or restructure roles to build a scalable finance organization for the next phase of growth.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or MBA Finance or equivalent finance qualification required.
  • 812 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, and financial management roles.
  • Prior experience in a Finance Controller, Head of Finance, or senior finance leadership role preferred.
  • Experience working with growing or multi-location businesses such as retail, services, or consumer-facing companies is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, forecasting, and business performance analysis, not just accounting and compliance.
  • Experience building or improving financial systems, reporting frameworks, and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with financial automation, ERP systems, and business intelligence tools used for financial reporting and dashboards.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop finance teams and build structured financial processes within growing organizations.
