Role Summary

Nayanta University is seeking an experienced and leadership-oriented Manager Finance and Accounts to oversee the full spectrum of financial operations, statutory compliance, audit management, and team leadership. The incumbent will be responsible for taking accounts to finalisation stage, managing MIS reporting cycles for the CFO and Board, leading the finance team, and ensuring robust compliance across taxation, GST, and charitable organisation requirements. The role demands a strong command of Tally and ERP systems, sound judgement in financial governance, and the ability to liaise effectively with auditors, regulators, and institutional leadership. This is a senior individual contributor and team management role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounts Finalisation Charitable & Educational Institutions

  • Own and manage the complete accounting cycle for the University up to and including finalisation of accounts covering trial balance, adjustments, provisions, and financial statements.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, including Receipts and Payments Account, Income and Expenditure Account, and Balance Sheet, in compliance with applicable accounting standards for educational trusts and charitable organisations.
  • Ensure accurate fund accounting, corpus and endowment tracking, and classification of restricted and unrestricted funds.

2. MIS Reporting CFO & Board

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual MIS reports to the CFO, covering income, expenditure, fund utilisation, variances, and key financial indicators.
  • Compile and present Board-level financial reports, including financial performance summaries, budget vs. actuals, and strategic financial updates on a quarterly basis.

3. Monthly Closing Processes

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end monthly financial closing process, ensuring all entries, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations are completed within defined timelines.
  • Review and approve journal entries, bank reconciliations, ledger reconciliations, and intercompany/internal fund adjustments.

4. Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a finance team of 24 members, including Assistant Managers, Executives, and support staff.
  • Allocate responsibilities, set performance goals, and conduct regular reviews to ensure team productivity and professional development.

5. Statutory & GST Audit Leadership

  • Lead and manage the University's statutory audit process end-to-end, including planning, documentation, auditor liaison, and timely closure.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive audit papers, schedules, and supporting workings to the statutory audit team and audit partners.
  • Serve as the primary institutional liaison with external audit partners; build and maintain productive relationships with audit teams.

6. Taxation Income Tax & TDS

  • Oversee end-to-end TDS compliance including accurate deduction, timely deposit, quarterly return filing (24Q, 26Q, 27Q), and issuance of certificates (Form 16/16A).
  • Manage income tax compliance for the University, including filing of returns, 12A/80G compliance, and exemption-related submissions.

7. GST Compliance

  • Oversee timely filing of monthly and quarterly GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B) and annual returns (GSTR-9/9C).
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of Input Tax Credit (ITC) with GSTR-2B and purchase records on a monthly basis.

8. Capitalisation of Expenditure

  • Apply sound judgement in the identification and capitalisation of capital expenditure versus revenue expenditure in line with applicable accounting standards and University policy.
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register (FAR), including additions, disposals, depreciation schedules, and periodic physical verification.

9. CSR & Donation Reporting

  • Manage accounting, tracking, and reporting for CSR grants and donations received by the University.
  • Prepare utilisation certificates, fund utilisation reports, and impact summaries for CSR donors and corporate partners.

10. Policy Development & Financial Controls

  • Actively identify gaps in existing financial policies and procedures; propose practical and compliant improvements for institutional adoption.
  • Support the CFO in drafting, reviewing, and implementing new financial policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and internal control frameworks.

11. ERP & Tally System Management

  • Serve as the functional owner of the University's accounting and ERP systems; ensure accurate, complete, and timely data maintenance.
  • Demonstrate in-depth working knowledge of Tally ERP 9 / Tally Prime, including advanced features such as cost centre accounting, budget controls, and multi-ledger reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognised university.
  • Master's degree (M.Com, MBA Finance) strongly preferred; CA Inter/ICWA qualification is a significant advantage.
  • Full CA/CMA qualification will be viewed favourably.
  • Certifications or coursework in GST, ERP systems (Oracle, SAP), or financial management are desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and finance, with demonstrated team leadership.
  • At least 34 years of experience in a university, educational institution, charitable trust, or non-profit organisation, with exposure to fund accounting and finalisation.
  • Proven track record of independently managing statutory audits, GST audits, TDS compliance, and monthly closing cycles.
  • Demonstrated experience in Board-level and CFO-level financial reporting and MIS preparation.
  • Hands-on experience managing a team of 24 finance professionals.
  • Experience on Oracle Financials, SAP FICO/S4 HANA, or similar large-scale ERP is a strong advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of Indian accounting standards (Ind AS / AS), including standards applicable to educational trusts and charitable organisations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Tally ERP 9 / Tally Prime; working knowledge of Oracle Financials or SAP (FICO) preferred.
  • Strong command of GST compliance, TDS provisions, and income tax regulations applicable to non-profit educational institutions.
  • Expertise in financial statement preparation, accounts finalisation, and audit paper presentation.
