Job Description

We are looking for a Commercial Controller who will play a critical role in managing statutory audits, financial reporting, contract reviews, and commercial support for the business. This role requires strong accounting fundamentals, hands on audit experience, and the ability to partner with Business teams to ensure revenue accuracy, governance, and timely decision support. The position offers exposure to core finance operations along with opportunities to improve reporting efficiency through automation and analytics.

Role Overview

The Commercial Controller will be responsible for supporting financial reporting ,independently managing statutory audits, and compliance, reviewing commercial contracts, and tracking revenue for the trading business. The role will work closely with senior finance leadership, auditors, and business teams to ensure strong controls, accurate reporting, and disciplined execution of commercials. The role will also contribute to process improvements using advanced Excel and reporting tools, with Power BI exposure being an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities -

Statutory Audit and Financial Reporting

  • Independently handle statutory audits, including preparation of financial statements, audit schedules, disclosures, and coordination with statutory auditors.
  • Support internal and special audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Companies Act 2013 and maintain audit ready documentation.
  • Apply basic working knowledge of Ind AS in financial reporting and audit discussions.

Commercial and Revenue Control

  • Prepare and review MIS, inventory reports, variance analysis, and month end closing schedules.
  • Track revenue and support execution of trading deals in coordination with business teams.
  • Monitor billing accuracy, revenue recognition, and reconciliations.
  • Support resolution of commercial and billing disputes through data analysis and documentation.
  • Monthly closure of books of accounts.
  • Review work performed by junior team members and ensure adherence to standard processes.
  • Support finance leadership in maintaining strong internal controls and governance standards.

Contract Review and Governance

  • Review commercial contracts, amendments, and deal documents from a financial and compliance perspective.
  • Ensure commercials, payment terms, and financial clauses are aligned with agreed terms and internal policies.
  • Identify financial risks, deviations, and control gaps and escalate appropriately.

Business Partnering and Planning Support

  • Work closely with business teams to provide financial analysis and performance insights.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and periodic business reviews.
  • Assist senior finance leadership with data driven inputs for decision making.

Process Improvement and Automation

  • Drive efficiency in reporting through advanced Excel skills, automation, and structured templates.
  • Support development and maintenance of dashboards and management reports.
  • Knowledge of Power BI will be an added advantage.

Key Skills and Competencies -

  • Hands on experience in managing statutory audits.
  • Basic working knowledge of Ind AS, Companies Act 2013, and audit processes.
  • Strong proficiency in advanced Excel, including automation and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and dashboards will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in revenue tracking, vendor management, and commercial operations.
  • Ability to review contracts and identify financial and compliance risks.
  • Strong attention to detail with clear communication and coordination skills.

Qualification and Experience -

  • Chartered Accountant with 5 to 7 years of post qualification experience.
  • Experience in Media, Advertising, Digital, or similar service oriented industries preferred.
  • Exposure to Big 4 statutory audits and Ind AS environments will be an advantage.
