Job Description

Oversee all fettling processes including:

Knockout, cutting, grinding, shot blasting, and finishing.

Ensure proper removal of gates, risers, flash, and surface defects from castings.

Allocate tasks and monitor performance of fettling operators and grinders.

Manage daily workforce and shift schedules.

Train new workers on safe and efficient fettling techniques.

Motivate the team to maintain productivity and discipline on the shop floor.

Ensure fettled castings meet dimensional, visual, and surface finish standards.

Coordinate with quality control to inspect and verify fettled components.

Minimize rework and rejection through effective process supervision.

Ensure proper usage and maintenance of:

Grinders, chisels, pneumatic tools, cutting machines, and shot blasting equipment.

Monitor wear and tear and report for tool replacement or repair.

Enforce the use of PPEs (gloves, goggles, ear protection, masks).

Ensure adherence to safety norms while using power tools and during shot blasting.

Maintain clean and organized work areas through 5S practices.

Suggest and implement improvements to reduce fettling time and improve finish.

Identify and reduce non-value-added activities in the fettling process.

Support initiatives like Lean, Kaizen, and 5S in the fettling area.
