Job Description

1. Role Objective

To oversee and control fabrication operations including laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, and assembly processes, ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety compliance, and operational efficiency are consistently achieved.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Production Planning & Execution

• Develop and execute daily and weekly production plans in coordination with the Production Manager.

• Schedule fabrication processes such as laser cutting, CNC bending, punching, and welding.

• Optimize manpower allocation based on skill matrix and machine capacity utilization.

• Ensure adherence to production targets, takt time, and delivery schedules.

• Monitor WIP (Work-In-Progress) and maintain smooth inter-process flow to avoid bottlenecks.

• Drive OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) improvements.

2.2 Quality Assurance & Control

• Ensure all fabricated components comply with engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.

• Perform in-process inspections and final quality checks using standard measuring instruments.

• Coordinate with QA/QC team for:

o Root cause analysis (RCA)

o Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA)

• Minimize rework, rejection, and scrap rates through process control.

2.3 Team Management & Leadership

• Supervise a team of operators, welders, fitters, and helpers.

• Conduct daily toolbox talks / shift briefings.

• Maintain and update skill matrix and training records.

• Provide on-the-job training for:

o Process improvement

o Safety practices

o Quality awareness

• Ensure discipline, productivity, and teamwork on the shop floor.

2.4 Machine & Material Management

• Monitor performance of machines such as:

o Laser cutting machines (e.g., Trumpf)

o CNC bending machines

o Welding equipment

• Report and coordinate for preventive & breakdown maintenance.

• Ensure availability of:

o Raw materials (MS, SS, Incoloy, etc.)

o Consumables (electrodes, gases, inserts)

o Tools & fixtures

• Maintain records of material consumption, yield, and scrap control.

2.5 Safety & 5S Implementation

• Enforce strict adherence to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) policies.

• Ensure proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

• Conduct safety audits and hazard identification.

• Implement and sustain 5S methodology:

o Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain

• Promote a zero-accident culture on the shop floor.

2.6 Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain and review:

o Daily production reports

o Shift logs and downtime records

o Attendance and manpower reports

• Update job status in ERP/MIS systems.

• Coordinate cross-functionally with:

o Design/Engineering

o Purchase

o Quality

o Dispatch

• Ensure compliance with ISO documentation standards (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001) where applicable.

3. Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of:

o Fabrication drawings (2D/3D interpretation)

o GD&T basics

• Hands-on experience with:

o Laser cutting, CNC bending, welding processes

• Proficiency in using measuring instruments:

o Vernier caliper

o Micrometer

o Height gauge

o Bevel protractor

Behavioral Skills

• Leadership and team handling capability

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

• Effective communication and coordination

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Computer Skills

• Basic proficiency in:

o ERP systems (SAP / Tally / custom ERP)

o MS Excel / reporting tools

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Production target achievement (%)

• Rejection and rework rate (%)

• Machine utilization / OEE (%)

• On-time delivery performance

• Safety compliance (zero incident target)

• 5S audit score

5. Educational Qualification

• Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• Relevant certifications in fabrication, welding, or production management are an added advantage
