Position Summary

We are looking for a hands-on, lead-capable Ethanol Commissioning Engineer to drive system-wise plant startup, pre-commissioning checks, and performance stabilization for ethanol/distillery projects. This role requires technical ownership of fermentation, distillation, evaporation, and utilities, along with the ability to coordinate multiple teams and ensure a smooth transition from construction to operations.

Core ResponsibilitiesPre-Commissioning & System Readiness
  • Lead mechanical completion checks, system walkdowns, punch list clearance, and readiness sign-offs.
  • Review PFDs, P&IDs, control logic, and interlock narratives before startup.
  • Oversee hydro-testing, flushing, air blowing, steam blowing, and dry/trial runs.
Startup & Process Integration
  • Drive DCS/PLC loop checks, interlock validation, and control loop tuning.
  • Lead startup of fermentation, yeast propagation, distillation columns, MEE, and dehydration systems.
  • Monitor and optimize temperature profiles, alcohol percentage, steam use, and recovery efficiency.
Troubleshooting & Performance
  • Diagnose and resolve operational issues like foaming, contamination, low recovery, and column instability.
  • Work closely with vendors, EPC teams, and client operations for seamless plant handover.
  • Support performance trials and ensure the plant meets guaranteed capacity and recovery norms.
Technical Know-How Required
  • Deep understanding of grain or molasses-based ethanol processes.
  • Practical experience with fermentation, distillation, MEE, dryers, and CPU systems.
  • Knowledge of steam and power integration in distillery plants.
  • Familiarity with DCS/PLC systems and process instrumentation.
  • Awareness of safety standards, EHS compliance, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Ability to reduce specific steam and power consumption through process optimization.
Experience Profile
  • 4–5 years in ethanol/distillery commissioning or operations.
  • At least 1–2 full plant start-ups from mechanical completion to stabilized operation.
  • Preference for experience in 120 KLPD or larger plants.
  • Exposure to ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) systems is a plus.
  • Proven ability to independently lead subsystem commissioning (e.g., distillation, evaporation, or utilities).
Leadership & Behavioral Traits
  • Takes full ownership and drives results under pressure.
  • Can lead technicians and junior engineers during intense startup phases.
  • Strong analytical and on-the-spot troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent at coordinating across cross-functional teams (engineering, ops, EPC, client).
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-stakes commissioning schedules.
