Role (Why position exists):
Will be responsible for driving end-to-end Health, Safety & Environment (EHS) practices across warehouse and distribution center operations, ensuring a safe working environment, adherence to statutory compliance, and zero-harm execution across all supply chain activities. The role also focuses on building a strong safety culture, mitigating operational risks, and ensuring compliance across infrastructure, people, and processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Define and implement EHS policies, SOPs, and safety standards across warehouse operations.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including fire safety, industrial safety, labour laws, and warehouse safety norms.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and site inspections to identify hazards in material handling and storage processes.
- Drive safe practices in loading/unloading, racking systems, and handling of equipment such as forklifts and pallet trucks.
- Lead incident/accident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and ensure closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure compliance of warehouse infrastructure including fire detection systems, sprinklers, alarms, emergency exits, and PPE usage.
- Plan and conduct mock drills, emergency response training, and evacuation procedures.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to integrate safety into daily warehouse activities and process improvements.
- Manage safety compliance for third-party vendors, transporters, and contract labour.
- Maintain EHS MIS, dashboards, audit reports, incident records, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with government authorities, auditors, and external agencies for inspections and certifications.
- Drive safety awareness through training programs, engagement initiatives, and on-ground interventions.
- Lead and develop the EHS team across warehouse locations, ensuring consistent execution.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of warehouse safety, fire systems, and statutory compliance frameworks
- Expertise in risk assessment, safety audits, and incident investigation
- Understanding of material handling equipment safety and warehouse operations
- Strong analytical, reporting, and dashboarding skills
- Effective stakeholder, vendor, and contractor management
Education & professional skillset:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Science
- Diploma/Certification in Industrial Safety / Occupational Health & Safety preferred
Desired experience:
- 12 - 15 years of experience in EHS within warehouse, logistics, retail distribution, or manufacturing setups
- Experience in managing multi-location warehouse operations and compliance
- Exposure to high-volume, fast-paced supply chain environments.
