ROLE OVERVIEW
The English Teacher for Grades 15 plays a critical role in building foundational literacy, communication skills, reading fluency, writing abilities, and a love for language among young learners. The teacher is expected to create a joyful, structured, and engaging learning environment that strengthens listening, speaking, reading, and writing through age-appropriate strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teaching & Learning
- Teach English across Grades 15 through phonics, storytelling, reading comprehension, grammar, creative writing, and spoken English.
- Prepare detailed lesson plans, learning outcomes, and activity-based learning modules.
- Use reading programs, picture books, phonics tools, and interactive activities to build language confidence.
- Conduct regular assessments and maintain accurate records of student progress.
2. Reading & Literacy Development
- Conduct guided reading sessions for early-grade learners.
- Build vocabulary, phonemic awareness, sentence formation, and comprehension through structured literacy approaches.
- Monitor individual reading levels and maintain reading logs.
3. Classroom Management & Environment
- Maintain a warm, child-friendly classroom environment.
- Create a print-rich space using charts, word walls, reading corners, and displays.
- Manage behaviour with empathy, consistency, and alignment with school values.
4. Communication & Collaboration
- Update parents regularly on progress, strengths, and areas of improvement.
- Maintain transparency and professionalism in parent communication.
- Collaborate with co-teachers, primary grade teachers, and subject coordinators for planning and integrated learning themes.
- Participate in weekly review meetings with senior management.
5. School Events & Responsibilities
- Participate actively in events such as Reading Week, Storytelling Festival, Annual Day, Sports Day, and Parent Workshops.
- Supervise students during sports, field trips, break times, and outdoor learning activities.
- Support theme-based activities, assemblies, and class presentations.
6. Professional Development
- Attend all professional development programmes, workshops, and Saturday sessions.
- Be open to feedback and reflective practice.
- Continuously upgrade skills in literacy instruction, phonics, and classroom pedagogy.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. English preferred)
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification
- 13 years of experience teaching primary grades
Preferred
- Experience with CBSE/ICSE/IGCSE curriculum
- Strong English speaking and writing skills
- Knowledge of early literacy methods (phonics, Jolly Phonics, guided reading, etc.)
- Comfort with digital tools (presentations, reading apps, smart-class tools)
