Ayang Trust is a social purpose organization working towards building the ecosystem for sustainable self empowered communities in Northeast India through interventions in quality education and livelihoods. At the heart of the organization is The Hummingbird School started in January 2017 to provide a contextual and holistic education to the children of Majuli, set up completely in partnership with the local community. Ayang grew out of the various and urgent needs of the people of Majuli and was registered in November 2017 and has since expanded its work into a diverse range of development programs.

The Opportunity

Ayang Trust is seeking a Language Teacher English for the primary section at The Hummingbird School. We are looking for a dedicated and passionate educator with a deep enthusiasm for early language development to design and deliver engaging and effective English language learning programs for young learners. This role requires creativity, commitment, and a strong belief in nurturing a lifelong love for language and communication in children.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and implement a comprehensive and age-appropriate English language curriculum aligned with the school's educational vision and goals.
  2. Foster literacy development across reading, writing, speaking, and listening through creative, interactive, and student-centered teaching methods.
  3. Assess students progress regularly and design individualized learning plans to address their unique strengths and challenges.
  4. Cultivate a love for language through storytelling, games, projects, and experiential learning activities that inspire curiosity and exploration.
  5. Utilize diverse teaching tools and resources to make learning accessible and enjoyable for all students.
  6. Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to express themselves confidently in English.
  7. Organize and lead language-related events such as reading clubs, storytelling sessions, and language competitions.
  8. Participate in school-wide initiatives and contribute to collaborative discussions and decision-making processes related to language education.
  9. Support fellow teachers by integrating language development strategies across subjects.

Qualifications:

A Master's degree in Education, English, Linguistics or a related field.

At least 2 years of experience in teaching language or literacy at the primary school level.

Strong knowledge of child language development and age-appropriate teaching strategies.

Experience in creating and delivering language programs that cater to diverse learning needs.

Excellent communication skills in English.

Creative, innovative, and passionate about fostering a love for language in young learners.

Strong organizational and planning skills.
