Responsibilities:
1. People Leadership & Talent Development
- Mentor & Coach: Manage a team of 6–10 backend engineers, providing regular feedback, career coaching, and performance management.
- Scale the Team: Partner with Talent Acquisition to hire, onboard, and retain top-tier talent.
- Foster Culture: Build a transparent, inclusive, and high-performance engineering culture.
2. Technical Strategy & Governance
- Architectural Oversight: Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance on distributed systems, microservices, and API design.
- Quality First: Drive the adoption of Shift-Left testing, CI/CD automation, and rigorous code review standards.
- Tech Debt Management: Balance the delivery of new features with the continuous improvement of the codebase and system scalability.
3. Delivery Management
- Agile Execution: Lead the team through the software development lifecycle (SDLC) using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Frontend leads to define roadmaps and manage expectations.
- Operational Excellence: Own the reliability of your services in production, participating in incident management and driving effective Post-Mortems.
What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in backend software engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a formal leadership/management role.
- Java Mastery: Deep expertise in the Java/Spring Boot ecosystem, including concurrency, JVM tuning, and memory management.
- System Design: Proven track record of building and scaling distributed systems and microservices (experience with Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ is a plus).
- Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker).
- Data Savvy: Strong understanding of relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Cassandra) databases.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
