The Centralized Quality Engineering (QE) team at Cloudera is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the Data Engineering and Data Warehouse platforms, which are part of Cloudera's Data Services Platform. The team works extensively with modern cloud and data technologies including Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and OpenShift, along with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Impala, Apache Trino and Hue. The team plays a critical role in delivering high-quality feature releases while maintaining the overall stability and robustness of the platform.
We are looking for a Quality Engineering Manager to lead this team and ensure that the features and releases of Cloudera's Data Platform products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and customer readiness.
As an Engineering Manager you will be:
- Leading a team of Quality Engineers and being their technical guru.
- Making sure the team follows QE best practices and testing standards.
- Working closely with everyone: platform/UI engineers, developers, UX folks, Product Management, etc.
- Mentoring, coaching, and guiding your team technically and for their careers.
- Helping design and maintain automated testing frameworks (Python/pytest preferred, or Java/TestNG/JUnit).
- Knowing your way around Test Planning, Test strategies, Methodologies, Test cases.
- Being good at debugging, especially with distributed systems on Linux.
- Figuring out test scenarios for new features involving Big Data tech
- Designing and keeping up CI/CD pipelines for speedy, smooth releases.
- Handling all the staffing stuff: hiring, interviews, promotions, salary reviews, and performance plans.
- Running the day-to-day for the QE team in an Agile/Scrum setting.
We're excited about you if you have:
- A degree in Computer Science (BE, MS, or Ph.D.).
- 10+ years of experience, with over 2 years in management at a Data/Big Data product company.
- 7+ years as an SDET/test engineer using programming languages.
- Strong knowledge in back-end testing (Web Services, Databases, distributed systems, etc.)
- Great communication skills
- Solid grasp of Quality Engineering best practices.
It's a plus if you have:
- Experience with Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, data engineering, and data warehouse.
- Experience architecting large application automation and containerized setups (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Experience with Apache Yunikorin
- Programming chops in Golang, Python, or Java.
- Experience working with Big Data technologies.
- Knowledge of SQL, query performance, and relational databases.
