The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology, and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.

This role will see you become part of our Identity Engineering Chapter Area, a key function within the group's broader Cyber Engineering practice.

  • As an Engineering Manager, you are a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), consulting on technical strategies, products, and feature designs, and will be critical to our quality implementation and delivery.
  • You will have the opportunity to work as a Team leadmanager as well as being an individual hands-on contributor as a Full Cycle Engineer, including automation development, systems integration, and contributing to the evolution of our platforms and business strategy.
  • This role will see you lead key project initiatives that drive the organisation's automation and optimisation capabilities, including the design and deployment of secure, scalable infrastructure and services in cloud environments such as AWS.
  • You will also be invited to attend our regular engineering guilds to broaden your expertise and participate in agile ceremonies, allowing you to contribute to and help define the way we operate.

Roles & Responsibilities: -

  • Inspire and empower engineering teams through mentorship, engagement, and a commitment to excellence, while providing strategic direction and technical leadership.
  • Bring deep experience across IAM tech stack such as Privileged Access Management (CyberArk) or Authentication and Authorization management SSO MFA (PING) and full engineering lifecycle, having led or contributed to teams involved in designing, building, challenging, and operating complex systems.
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for software craftsmanship, with hands-on experience in designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining high-quality software and platforms.
  • Build and manage automation tools that streamline operations across platforms, infrastructure, environments, and development tooling.
  • Ensure infrastructure reliability, security, and scalability, driving continuous improvements to support evolving business and technical needs.
  • Architect resilient and secure cloud environments, leveraging platforms such as AWS, Azure, or equivalent to enable robust application development.
  • Lead technical initiatives and product strategy, aligning engineering efforts with business objectives across a diverse and complex technology landscape.
  • Have a proven track record of delivering mission-critical solutions, meeting high standards for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Understand enterprise-scale challenges, with the ability to design scalable solutions and proactively mitigate risks in complex environments.
  • Drive innovation and execution, identifying opportunities, defining problem spaces, building consensus, and delivering impactful outcomes.

Essential Skills: -

At CBA, we leverage a diverse set of technologies to build and operate resilient, scalable platforms. While we don't expect expertise in every tool or framework, familiarity or hands-on experience with some of the followingor their equivalentswill set you up for success in this role:

  • Privileged Access Management (CyberArk) and SSO MFA (PING) Experience with IAM tech stack
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud security and infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or similar platforms, with a strong understanding of cloud-native architecture and services.
  • CI/CD Tooling: Proficiency in modern DevOps practices using tools like GitLab, GitHub Actions, or equivalent, enabling automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, or similar technologies, for building, deploying, and managing containerized applications at scale.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Working knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or comparable tools to define, provision, and manage infrastructure in a repeatable and automated manner
  • Scripting & Automation: Strong programming skills in Python or Java, with a focus on automating operational tasks, improving developer workflows, and enhancing platform reliability.

Education Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree/master's degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
