Role Summary
You will be leading the Customer Communication, AI and Automation (CAIA) team, and will play a key role in shaping Delta's Cloud modernization, AI delivery and Customer Experiences.
We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Leader with 15+ years of experience to lead high-impact engineering teams, drive cloud-native platforms on AWS, and deliver AI-powered, product-led solutions at scale. This role requires a strong balance of technical depth, people leadership, and strategic product thinking.
The ideal candidate has built and scaled engineering organizations, partnered closely with Product and Business leaders, and successfully delivered complex systems in fast-paced environments.
Key Responsibilities
Technology & Architecture
- Define and evolve cloud-native architectures on AWS, ensuring scalability, security, resilience, and cost efficiency
- Lead system design for large-scale distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices
- Drive adoption of AI/ML-enabled capabilities (e.g., personalization, recommendations, automation, analytics) into core products
- Champion engineering best practices including CI/CD, observability, DevOps, SRE, and security-by-design
People & Organization Leadership
- Build, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams across multiple geographies
- Lead teams; set clear expectations for delivery, quality, and growth
- Foster a culture of ownership, psychological safety, continuous learning, and technical excellence
- Guide career progression, succession planning, and performance management
Product & Business Partnership
- Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Data, and Business stakeholders to translate vision into execution
- Drive a product mindset—customer-centric thinking, outcome-based delivery, and rapid iteration
- Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform and architecture investments
- Contribute to roadmap planning, estimation, and prioritization aligned to business goals
Strategy & Execution
- Own execution for major initiatives, ensuring predictable delivery across multiple teams
- Make data-driven tradeoffs across scope, timelines, quality, and technical debt
- Influence executive leadership with clear communication, metrics, and technical insights
- Lead transformation initiatives including modernization, platform re-architecture, or AI adoption
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- BE / B Tech or ME / M Tech, preferably in a technical or scientific field, with 16 or more years of experience in IT project-based environment, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and / or training is required
- 15 Years of proven experience in software engineering resource management or a related role, with a strong understanding of Software development and support processes and Agile methodologies.
- Must be technically astute to white board out solutions to articulate design
- Agile and preferably scaled agile experience
- Experience with engineering software, serverless software within Amazon Web Services (AWS) is required.
- Core knowledge of technologies and programming languages such as: Python, TypeScript, SQL, Dynamo, RDS, Aurora/Postgres, AWS CDK.
- Experienced in Leading AI teams with strong foundation on Machine Learning and Generative AI.
- Expertise with Continuous Integration and Delivery models – CI/CD.
- Experience in cloud managed services and databases (RDS, NoSQL/DynamoDB, serverless, etc.)
- Good understanding of RPA tools such as UIPath, Power Automate, etc.
- Strong understanding quality and security practices.
- Experience with automation of quality, compliance, and testing frameworks (BDD/TDD).
- Test Driven Development, Quality forward development practices, with automation at forefront for continuous quality.
- Security DevSecOps, MLOps focus that adheres to best practices.
- Proven experience in managing a team of highly productive Software development resources.
- Experience in managing resources working in a highly agile environment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience in capacity planning, resource allocation, and Agile team management.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in IT engineering resource management.
- Experience with resource management tools and software platforms is a plus.
- Experience in cloud environment, experience with FinOps, using tools like Jira or Digital ai Agility, is a plus.
- Experience in Team Leadership: Managed, mentored, coached and developed teams, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment
- Experience in Resource Allocation, Capacity Planning & Resource utilization
- Experience in Performance Management by providing regular performance feedback, recognizing achievements and addressing areas for improvement
