The Role
Are you passionate about designing innovative automation solutions for the automotive industry
In this role, you'll take ownership of Body-in-White (BIW) fixture and automation design projects from concept to completion, working on cutting-edge robotic systems, precision tooling, and material handling solutions. You'll collaborate with a dynamic team of engineers to deliver high-performance designs that meet stringent OEM standards, while leveraging advanced CAD tools and engineering principles. This position reports to the
Design Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in Design Activities Actively contribute as a member of the Mechanical Design Engineering team, collaborating effectively with colleagues and cross-functional teams.
- End-to-End BIW Design Ownership Manage the complete design process for BIW fixtures and automation systemsfrom concept development to detailed design, documentation, and final review.
- Design Components and Assemblies Develop and design BIW mechanical components, welding fixtures, and assemblies that meet structural integrity, performance, and manufacturability requirements.
- Complex Mechanism and System Design Design high-speed robotic systems, servo-driven mechanisms, and automated tooling for BIW processes, incorporating kinematic principles and precision alignment.
- Engineering Analysis and Calculations Perform calculations for force, movement, energy, and cycle time analysis to validate BIW fixture performance and ensure compliance with OEM standards.
- Material Handling and Conveyance Systems Design and integrate BIW material handling solutions, including conveyors, lifters, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) for smooth production flow.
- Documentation and Standards Compliance Create and maintain engineering drawings and documentation in accordance with automotive BIW standards and company guidelines; ensure compliance with safety and quality regulations.
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting Provide technical assistance to manufacturing and assembly teams, resolving design-related issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Software and Tools Utilization Demonstrate proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office tools for design, documentation, and project management.
- Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Development Stay current with emerging mechanical engineering technologies and trends, applying innovative solutions to enhance design processes.
Essential
Qualifications and Experience
- Education Bachelor's degree (BE or B.Tech) in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Software Proficiency Advanced skills in NX and SolidWorks
- Key Skills
- BIW fixture design and welding automation.
- Assembly automation and integrated systems.
- Robotic systems for BIW processes.
- Custom machine design and manufacturing for automotive body structures.
- Industry Experience 37 years in mechanical design for BIW automation machinery, preferably within automotive manufacturing or related sectors.
Desirable
- Sequence Development & System Layout Experience in sequence development programming, BIW system layout, process engineering, and factory CAD.
- Familiarity with PDM and Autodesk Inventor is preferred.
- Valid visa for USA, UK, or Canada is highly recommended.
- Knowledge of North American standards and industry regulations; GAMP 5 experience is advantageous.

- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
