The Lead Design Engineer BESS will spearhead and establish our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) division and play a strategic role in defining technical frameworks, guiding project execution, and nurturing a high-performing team of engineers. This position is ideal for professionals with strong experience in renewable energy project delivery in the US market, including a sound understanding of local standards and grid connection frameworks.
What you can expect as Lead Design Engineer BESS at Illumine-i:
- You'll lead the engineering design and delivery of utility-scale and C&I Solar and BESS projects
- You'll ensure all designs comply with US Standards, grid codes, and local regulatory requirements
- You'll coordinate with internal teams, EPCs, consultants, and utilities to ensure seamless execution
- You'll oversee preparation of single-line diagrams (SLDs), layouts, protection studies, and connection documentation
- You'll support project development, permitting, and due diligence processes
- You'll provide technical leadership during project execution, commissioning, and handover
- You'll stay up-to-date with evolving industry standards, AEMO/DNSP requirements, and best practices in clean energy engineering
Essential Qualifications include:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Solar PV + BESS engineering
- Deep knowledge of US Standards
- Proven experience in power system design, energy storage integration, and grid connection
- Proficient in tools like AutoCAD, PowerFactory, ETAP, PVsyst, or similar
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering or related field
- CPEng or RPEQ accreditation (or in progress) is desirable
- Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination skills
Great to have:
- Background in financial modeling of BESS ROI, LCOE, and CapEx/OpEx optimization.
