Job Description

A growth-stage climate infrastructure startup building and scaling electrolyzer systems for carbon removal and green hydrogen production. Having successfully deployed large-scale pilot systems, the company is now transitioning into commercial manufacturing and is establishing its production capability in India. The current phase focuses on industrialising electrolyzer hardware - driving design-for-manufacturing (DFM), cost reduction, supplier development, and scalable production of complex, multi-material electrochemical systems, with a strong focus on cost optimisation, manufacturing scalability, and supply chain build-out. This is a hands-on engineering and manufacturing build-out environment, suited for candidates with experience in electrolyzer manufacturing, fuel cells, hydrogen systems, or related chemical/process equipment.

Electrolyzer Manufacturing Lead (Scale from 0 - 1 experience)

Based in Mumbai

About the role

This role is responsible for leading the industrialisation of a novel seawater electrolyzer platform, transitioning from one-off prototype and demonstration builds into scalable, repeatable commercial production. The Manufacturing Lead will play a critical role in driving cost reduction, improving manufacturability, and establishing a robust global supply chain while maintaining or improving system performance. The role starts as a hands-on individual contributor focused on design transfer, process scale-up, and supplier ramp-up. As production volume increases, it will evolve into a team leadership position with a pathway towards Chief Manufacturing Officer. This is a high-ownership role for someone who can bridge engineering design and manufacturing execution in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transition from one-off, demonstration-scale builds to serialised commercial production based on a Design for Manufacturing (DFM) strategy
  • Drive at least 50 percent year-on-year cost reduction through DFM, material optimisation, process refinement, supplier strategy, and yield improvement
  • Work closely with mechanical and chemical engineering teams to redesign stack and system components for manufacturability, durability, and cost
  • Build detailed cost models and identify structural cost-down opportunities across materials, processes, and logistics
  • Establish and own the global supply chain, including vendor selection, qualification, negotiation, and performance management
  • Oversee production of multi-material assemblies, including titanium, thermoplastics, elastomers, and coated components
  • Improve manufacturing workflows, QA and QC standards, and inspection processes
  • Determine outsourcing versus vertical integration strategy based on cost, quality, and scalability
  • Travel to domestic and international manufacturing partners and project sites as required
  • Hire and build a manufacturing team as production volume increases

Requirements:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • 7 or more years of experience scaling complex hardware systems into repeatable commercial production
  • Demonstrated success achieving significant cost reductions in multi-component, multi-material systems
  • Deep working knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, forming, etching, injection moulding, laser cutting, compression moulding, and related methods
  • Strong materials expertise across corrosion-resistant metals, thermoplastics, and structural assemblies, with focus on titanium, stainless steel, and graphitic systems
  • Experience redesigning engineered systems for DFM and cost optimisation
  • Experience selecting, qualifying, and managing global suppliers
  • Strong cost modelling, yield analysis, and process optimisation capability
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed
  • Ability to operate hands-on in a fast-moving startup environment

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in electrochemical systems, energy hardware, water systems, or chemical process equipment
  • Experience with electroplating and surface treatment processes
  • Familiarity with corrosion-resistant coatings and harsh-environment systems
  • Experience implementing lean manufacturing or continuous improvement systems
  • Prior startup or deep-tech scale-up experience
  • Experience building and leading manufacturing teams

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
