Job Title: Electrochemical R&D Lead

Department: GreenTech R&D
Location: Hazira, Gujarat
Position Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and driven Electrochemical R&D Lead to spearhead innovation in green hydrogen technologies, with a focus on electrolyser stack components, advanced materials, and performance optimization. The successful candidate will lead the development of next-generation electrochemical systems-including alkaline electrolysers-while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across materials science, modeling, and product engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

1. R&D Leadership

  • Lead core R&D programs on electrochemical devices (electrolysers, fuel cells, batteries) with focus on component and system-level innovation.
  • Drive technology development for electrodes, membranes, coatings, and catalysts to improve efficiency, durability, and cost.

2. Experimental Design & Testing

  • Design, plan, and execute experiments related to electrochemical performance, degradation studies, and material qualification.
  • Oversee single-cell, short-stack, and full-stack testing with deep understanding of SEC, overpotentials, and gas crossover.

3. Technology Development

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement novel electrochemical materials (e.g., non-precious catalysts, polymer membranes, advanced separators).
  • Collaborate with modeling teams to guide material and component optimization using DFT, CFD, and FEA insights.

4. Team & Project Management

  • Manage a team of scientists and engineers to meet project milestones and technology readiness levels (TRL).
  • Develop and manage internal and collaborative research programs with academic and industrial partners.

5. IP, Documentation & Reporting

  • Drive intellectual property creation-file patents, write disclosures, and contribute to publications.
  • Prepare technical reports, performance summaries, and presentation material for internal stakeholders and leadership reviews.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master's degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on R&D experience in water electrolysis, fuel cells, or battery technology.
  • Proven track record of delivering electrochemical innovations from lab to prototype scale.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of electrode kinetics, mass transport, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with test bench design, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and advanced characterization tools (SEM, XPS, XRD, etc.).
  • Experience in scaling up laboratory technologies to pilot or commercial systems.
  • Prior exposure to technology transfer, supplier qualification, or product development in green energy systems.
