Job Description

Name of the Position: Electrical Systems Engineer

Qualification: Bachelors in electrical engineering

Reports to: Principal Electrical Engineer – South Pacific

Purpose of the position:

- Ensure that all electrical systems provide adequate functionality at required reliability with minimum cost of ownership in compliance with internal and external regulations.

- Support the implementation of a strategy for sourcing, engineering, maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems in a standardised way.

- Support the continuous improvement of assets, work processes and people capabilities to maximize business profitability optimizing functionality, reliability, efficiency and lifecycle cost of electrical systems.

Geographical Area of responsibility

Australia & New Zealand but located in Vadodara, Gujarat

Functional area of activity

Operation, engineering, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems including:

- Power system analysis including fault, load flow, arc flash, protection co-ordination, motor start-up etc. using ETAP (Version 20.0 and over)-

High/Medium/Low voltage substations and switchgears,

- HV & LV Motors,

- Motor starters including VSD, start/delta, liquid resistance starter, soft starter etc.

- Transformers,

- Generators,

- Battery & UPS system,

- Lightning protection and earthing,

- Electrical equipment in hazardous area (EEHA) AU/NZS familiarity.

- Online and offline electrical testing,

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

- Support RSP technical lead on various improvement objectives.

Operations

- Provide Electrical Systems technical support to the operating sites.

Maintenance

Provide technical advice to local maintenance teams for the sourcing, replacement and troubleshooting of electrical systems. This includes:

- Standardisation of equipment and service providers,

- Review of online and offline maintenance plans,

- Review of online condition monitoring test results,

- Assess the competence of maintenance personnel for electrical systems and ensure that gaps between the actual and the required competence are closed.

- Ensure that maintenance for electrical systems is adequate, cost efficient and in compliance to Linde work processes

Projects / Modifications

Modifications:

- Design and/or review all major modifications to electrical systems.

- Ensure update of the related plant documents in document management system after modification,

- Lead implementation of initiatives resulting from safety alerts,

Provide input to:

- scope definition, costing & schedule

- specification of respective equipment & services

- selection of vendors & service suppliers

- subcontract construction & installation activities

- testing & commissioning for major modifications of the existing electrical systems (including emergency situations).

For electrical systems of new plants or process units:

- ensure relevant requirements are defined and reviewed by members of the team

- ensure electrical system structures & vendors are compliant with Linde standards and specific project/site requirements

- participate in relevant project reviews and acceptance (incl. factory and site acceptance tests, handover of systems)

- ensure maintenance teams are trained to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the new systems

- ensure all necessary documents are handed over, are of good quality and are stored in the Linde Gas Global Document Management system.

Troubleshooting

- Provide remote support to RSP electrical engineers where requested.

Reporting / performance management

- Review downtime reporting of electrical system failures at sites

- Review internal and external maintenance cost

- Review open actions for sites and provide direct support for site teams to close actions.

- Report implementation status of initiatives resulting from alerts, Lessons from Reliability Events and directives

KEY INTERFACES

External interfaces

- Suppliers - Selection of suitable regional suppliers, agree on technical scope/solution, stage gate inspection to ensure quality.

- Service Providers (for maintenance & engineering) - Selection of suitable regional providers, agree on scope, ensure quality.

- Plant Suppliers - Define requirements, review proposed design, participate in stage gate reviews and plant acceptance.

Internal interfaces

- communicate directives, alerts & initiatives. Support maintenance, trouble-shooting etc

- Projects & Improvements - develop design concepts, review EMOCs and provide expert input to improvement projects - eg, support scope definition, system design and design reviews.

- Opportunity & Project Development - define technical requirements specific to local site. Participate in stage gate reviews, Lead handover and acceptance of electrical systems

- Procurement - Work with Procurement to ensure that all supply agreements are properly implemented when required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Key soft skills

- Ability to take right decision based on facts under pressure

- Establish and maintain collaborative authority with contractors/suppliers

- Ability to influence/convince cross functional teams including superiors

- Strong problem solving and project management skills.

- Good negotiation skills

- Good oral & written communication skills in English language to explain and document reasoning for decisions.

Key functional skills

- Experience in performing various power system studies using Etap (Version 20.0 or over).

- Experience in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting HV and LV electrical systems.

- Experience with electrical isolation and re-energisation.

- Detailed technical knowledge of relevant electrical equipment and systems.

- Background in electrical safety with knowledge of hazards involved in operation and maintenance of electrical systems.

- Detailed knowledge with relevant national and international codes and standards.

- Experience in root cause failure analysis

- Strong capability to facilitate or lead risk assessments and make risk based decisions

- Experience in designing and building electrical systems.

- Experience in design of lightning protection and earthing.

- Experience in hazardous area inspection, design, maintenance.

- Experience in performing power system studies (fault level, load flow, arc flash, protection coordination) using Etap model.

- Read and understand electrical schematics.

- Experience with cable sizing and earth loop impedance calculations.
