Job Description

Purpose:

The Project Manager – Electrical & Instrumentation will lead both electrical and instrumentation & control engineering disciplines for greenfield and brownfield projects. The role ensures robust design, standardization, statutory compliance, cost optimization, timely procurement, efficient site execution, and safe commissioning in coordination with internal teams, consultants, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Engineering, Standardization & Inter-disciplinary Coordination

  • Review and approve engineering documents in coordination with consultants and site teams:

Electrical:

  • Single Line Diagrams (SLD) – RMU / VCB, PCC, MCC, IMCC, APFC, DGCP, UPS
  • Electrical layouts – panel rooms, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, cable routing
  • Datasheets – transformers, HT/LT panels, motors, cables, UPS, batteries

Instrumentation & Control:

  • Instrument Index, I/O List, Control Philosophy
  • P&IDs (Instrumentation scope validation)
  • Datasheets – transmitters, control valves, analyzers, gauges, switches
  • Hook-ups, loop diagrams, JB wiring diagrams, cable schedules
  • Ensure proper validation of:
  • Control logics, interlocks, and shutdown philosophy (ESD/SIS)
  • DCS / PLC I/O requirements
  • Prepare BOQs for electrical and instrumentation systems jointly with consultants
  • Ensure hazardous area compliance (Ex-proof / intrinsically safe systems).

2. Vendor & Consultant Interface

  • Lead technical evaluation of vendor offers for:
  • Electrical systems (transformers, panels, cables, lighting, UPS)
  • Instrumentation systems (field instruments, control valves, DCS/PLC/SCADA)
  • Review and approve vendor drawings (GA, wiring diagrams, schematics)
  • Coordinate with consultants, OEMs, and site teams for design finalization

3. Tendering & Procurement Support

  • Support RFQs / enquiries and finalization of POs for all packages
  • Participate in techno-commercial evaluations and negotiations
  • Ensure cost optimization within approved project budgets
  • Track procurement schedules aligned with project timelines

4. Site Execution & Commissioning

  • Coordinate and supervise:
  • Electrical erection, testing & commissioning
  • Instrument installation, loop checking, calibration
  • DCS/PLC system integration
  • Troubleshoot site issues and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards
  • Ensure alignment with approved designs and specifications

5. Inspection, FAT / SAT & Expediting

Conduct FAT for:

  • Transformers, HT/LT panels
  • DCS/PLC systems, control valves, critical instruments
  • Support SAT and commissioning validation
  • Ensure inspection of materials before dispatch
  • Monitor expediting and delivery of critical packages

6. Automation, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure implementation of:
  • DCS / PLC systems
  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Electrical statutory authorities (e.g., MSEDCL, Electrical Inspectorate)
  • ISA / IEC standards and hazardous area norms
  • Support approvals, documentation, and energization/charging permissions.

7. Vendor Management & Performance Monitoring

  • Manage relationships with vendors, consultants, and contractors
  • Monitor vendor performance, quality, and delivery timelines
  • Ensure adherence to contractual and technical requirements.

8. Energy Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Track electrical energy consumption across projects
  • Drive initiatives for energy optimization and green energy adoption
  • Promote digitalization and Industry 4.0 practices in automation systems

Reporting to: AVP – Projects

Education

·       Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Instrumentation / Electronics / Instrumentation & Control Engineering

·       Post-graduation in Power Systems / Control Systems / Automation (preferred).

Experience:

·       12–15 years of experience in Electrical & Instrumentation engineering in project environments

·       Experience in Chemical / Petrochemical / Pharma / Refinery / Process industries preferred

. Hands-on exposure to: Site execution & commissioning

·       Electrical systems & automation (DCS/PLC).

·       Greenfield and brownfield projects
