Job Description

Role: Director –Private Utility Transformation-Mumbai

Role Summary

Lead and scale PwC India's Electricity Utilities Transformation offering within theP&U practice, focused on private sector utilities. Drive engagements spanningnew business models, digital/technology platform transformations, andoperational excellence for private DISCOMs, integrated utilities, and new-ageenergy retailers. Serve as a trusted advisor to utility CXOs navigatingderegulation, competition, customer-centricity, and energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

Lead utility transformation engagements across the following themes:

1.New Business Models : Retail competition & open access strategy, behind-the-meter services (rooftop solar, BESS, EV charging), energy-as-a-service, demand response aggregation, green tariff / C&I open access, prosumer models, community energy, peer-to-peer energy trading, ancillary services revenue

2.Technology Platform Transformation : CIS/billing (SAP IS-U, Oracle CC&B), ERP (SAP S/4HANA), MDM/MDMS (smart meter data), OT convergence (SCADA/ADMS/DMS/OMS), CRM & customer experience platforms, GIS (Smallworld, ArcGIS Utility Network), asset management (IBM Maximo, SAP EAM), workforce management, cloud migration

3.Smart Metering & AMI : AMI rollout strategy, MDMS implementation, data governance, prepaid/ToD billing, system integration, vendor selection, smart meter analytics, revenue assurance

4.Operational Excellence : AT&C loss reduction, distribution network optimization, outage management, capital project efficiency, supply chain transformation, workforce productivity

5.Customer Transformation : Customer experience redesign (digital channels, omnichannel, self-service), customer segmentation, dynamic tariffs, loyalty/retention in competitive markets, net metering/net billing operationalization

  • Develop reusable IP & frameworks – utility maturity assessment, technology roadmap templates, business case models for new ventures, RFP evaluation frameworks for platform selection.
  • Originate and win business – build deep relationships with CXOs of private utilities and energy companies; target ₹8–12 Cr+ annual origination
  • Collaborate across PwC service lines – Technology/Digital, Deals, Tax, Risk – to deliver integrated transformation programs
  • Build and lead a team of 8–15 consultants spanning strategy, technology, operations, and regulatory

Qualifications & Experience : B.E./B.Tech (Electrical/Power Systems preferred); MBA from a reputed institution strongly preferred

Years of experience:

  • 10–15 years total experience with:
  • 8+ years in private sector electricity utilities (non-negotiable) – in operational, strategic, commercial, technology, or transformation roles
  • 3+ years in consulting/advisory or leading large-scale transformation programs withina utility
  • Direct working experience with one of the private utilities in India

Hands-on knowledge of utility in any of below technology platforms:

1.CIS / Billing : SAP IS-U, Oracle CC&B / Oracle Utilities (CCB/C2M), Fluentgrid

2.ERP : SAP S/4HANA, Oracle EBS

3.MDMS / AMI : IntelliSmart MDMS, Itron, Landis+Gyr, Genus, Secure Meters, HPL

4.SCADA / ADMS / OMS : GE (GridOS), Schneider (ADMS), Siemens, OSI (Monarch)

5.GIS : Smallworld (GE), ESRI ArcGIS Utility Network

6.CRM / CX : Salesforce, ServiceNow, custom portals

7.Asset Management : IBM Maximo, SAP EAM
